Ok I checked with our MB techs and we are talking about engine timing not ignition timing right? Basically the tools you would need are PN A156 589 00 32 00 AND A156 589 00 61 00. The first tool aligns the gears for you and the second tool holds the camshaft from moving while tightening. In tools you are looking at MSRP $200 for both.

You can find them in the antique shop. The ECU program determine the firing from the crank sensor. It's all software programing-no timing guns.
