How do you remove the instrument cluster?

Before I go and start pulling and prying, does anyone know off hand how to remove or at the least, get to the instrument cluster (dash) on an 06 CLS55?

I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, and rarely need to look up such "how too's" but in this case, I don't want to miss a special procedure, clip, screw, or something in that nature and end up breaking things...

No one locally has a service manual in stock I can purchase, so I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience in doing so.

Any help, advice and or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Piece of cake.

Lower your steering wheel column and pull it all the way out so you have more room to play with. Take your thumbs and place them underneath the chrome trim that runs around the cluster, pry it up and it should unclip, don't be afraid it's not that easy to break, and it's pretty flexible (sometimes I unclip it on the move since it's a great stash spot ) one you got the bottom part out, work your way around to the top and slide the trim out. You'll find 4 T25 screws holding the cluster in place, take them off... then remove the plastic pin that you control the backlight with. From there on, pull the cluster forward, and face it down so you can unplug the harness, push the little arm clip thing down and flip it to the left, it'll lift the whole harness off the cluster and it should be free to pull out.

Good stuff! I was trying to remove the trim but it felt as if it was being held (locked) in from the outer sides. I can get the bottom edge to lift up fairly good, but no luck yet with the sides. I'll give it another go later this evening (prying a little harder this time). Thanks for the info!

Why are you trying to remove the whole dashboard? Or do you mean just wood trim across the entire dashboard?

Yeah just pull on it a little harder, I never had a hard time removing the trim on the 4 CLS's I've worked on. As long as the bottom is unclipped and you have some leverage on the trim, pull on it from the bottom with your fingers pulling on the trim as close as possible to the sides. Try doing the same with the top if you don't have any luck.
