LED license plate lights? PITA!

LED license plate lights? PITA!
Got a pair of LED license plate lights for Xmas and what I thought would be a 1-2-3 install looks to be quite a job!
In order to get the above units on, it looks like I have to remove the entire chrome trim off the trunk!!! Two torx screws and then the rest is double sided tape, which doesn't budge!
Anyone else get these or know of any other way to install them without removing the trim (don't think there's a way, but I figured I would ask)...
I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting the bulb replacement LED's, but these looked to be better quality, not to mention brighter....

There was another write up on here somewhere about how to install them. It was a major pain in the ***. I got just the bulb replacement and it literally took me 5 minutes to do them both and they look great.
