It really doesn't matter if it's 20k miles or 40k. It's all about the car's history and how it was driven. (e.g. Would you rather have the CLS with the old man putting slow highway miles on it accumulating 40k miles, or the CLS with the guy hitting it hard, burning out at every stoplight interchange accumulating 20k miles) I would just advise you make sure you know the history and get a thorough PPI before purchasing.

Listen to these guys. It's so tempeting to see these CLS55's at independent dealers in the $30's but beware. This car is a rocket and most have been driven as such. Why dump the extra $30k when new over a regular CLS500 unless you want the speed.
While these cars are built well, they are engineered to the hilt. Don't buy one that you can't get a verified in writing warranty on. Like the guys said, CPO. Certified Pre Owned. The only place to get that is from a Mercedes dealership. You will spend more money for a car at a Mercedes dealership but you get what you pay for. If you feel confident about an outside warranty like the Chrysler or another independent warranty don't let us talk you out of it.
However, if you want something bullet proof (warranty) go CPO and buy from a Mercedes dealership or buy a car that still has CPO.
Everyone here for the most part are CLS55 or 63 owners and they are all telling you the same thing. You wil hate your new car quick if you don't get a CPO car and start running into problems. Good luck!

So in theory, assuming most people will want an extended warranty as their factory one runs out (if it hasn't already), the majority of the vehicles that will fall into this category will be between 40K and 50K miles. What you're ending up with for $3400 is in actuality 30K - 20K miles in protection over the course of 5 years, and once again which ever one comes first.
Considering the average vehicle owner racks up 12-15K miles a year, that means your coverage could end in as quick as 2 years or less.
The MB CPO warranty provides vehicle coverage for 12 months (just 1 year) or up to 100K total accumulated vehicle miles and begins at the expiration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. For 06's that basically means now or very soon. So the $5K-$8K extra you're paying for the CPO warranty (aside from the CPO inspection) is basically giving you 50K miles of protection for just one year. Which ever comes first.
Just something to consider....

I just want to clarify one thing for those that may not be in the know. When they mention 5yrs / 70K miles, its 1: whichever comes first and 2: it doesn't mean you get an added 70K miles of protection. It just means your car is covered till you hit 70K miles.

Acutally this is not true. It is actually 5yrs/70k miles starting from the date of signing. Chrysler offers 2 types of warranties. One for coverage from date of inception and one for used car warranty. The used car one comes in many flavors. You can get 1-4yrs of coverage with unlimited mileage or 5yr coverage with 70k extra miles coverage. So for $3400 you actually get 5years starting now and an extra 70k miles.
There are many people on this board that have this coverage and there is a huge thread about this. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...rranty-19.html
Check out post #458 with pricing listed. I got mine from this same place and this is the link to get your own online instant quote and explanation of warranties: http://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com
To get quotes for warranties that start today you have to select that your current factory warranty is over otherwise it will only show you plans that start from inception date.
Oh yeah that the only catch is you have to have under 60k miles currently to be able to purchase from that site. You can still get it beyond that but have to contact chrysler directly and it costs alot more then.

Ok, so I have 50K miles on my 06 CLS55, if I shelled out $3400 I'll be covered all the way till 120K miles & 5 years?
That's not what I was informed.... anyone else that can chime on on this...

The prices for these warranties hae been going up over the year, chrysler directly used to sell it for $3200 and now has upped the price to about $5500, b/c of the huge hit they are taking with these AMG cars (this is what Todd @ chrysler told me), but brokers such as Mike Case sell it for alot less still. They used to be about $500 cheaper last year and are slowly increasing pricing.

I don't know about that. Probably the dealer is telling you this because you are not buying the car from them.
I bought my car as a CPO and I was offered an extended warranty, and obviously I'm not the original owner.
I declined the extended warranty since I had about 2 years from the time I bought it, though I'm reconsidering.
Call MBUSA and ask them.

Hey Manny, your in Vancouver too, right? You won't be able to get the Chrysler warranty here nor will any good 3rd party company warranty a AMG, V-12 BMW or Mercedes. I went through almost all of them when I was trying to get a warranty for my S600. Your best bet is buying a local cpo or buying a cpo from the states and service it in Seattle. I wouldn't keep this car without a warranty. I have cpo warranty until May 2013. The car is from Broadway Benz. If you want to get into a E55 pm me. My buddy has a 03 black and 05 silver for real good prices. Both local.
What if I am able to get a car from the US that still has warranty..am I able to extend the warranty in the states and then just take my car to Seattle for servicing? It makes more sense...still saving 10-15K on the car.
The cheapest CLS 55 here was 58K CAD.
I really want a CLS to be honest.
