Parktronic Torture

My Parktronic sensor goes off when it shouldn't. At random times when I slow the car to a speed where the Parktronic comes on it will fire off the front driver side warning. This drove me nuts to the point where I took it in for service. The dealer replaced the sensor and I picked the car up Friday night. When I pulled into the driveway at home the sensor fired off a warning. All weekend at random times I had the same thing happen. Anyone else had a similar experience? Where do I go from here?

The place to go is back to the dealer who did the work. The current result is unacceptable.

In the meantime, you can at least disable the audible notification using the button near the bottom of the shifter.

Thanks. Appointment made for next week and sensor turned off. The most frustrating thing is the cost of the repair. Replacing the sensor in the bumper meant painting the sensor to match. Now it appears that was not the problem in the first place (perhaps).

Yeah I had the same issue after I drop the car off for service one time. I took it back and they fixed it. Not sure what they did but they fixed it!

MB covers repair for 12months/unlimited mileage so there should be no out of pocket cost. Incorrect painting of the sensor (i.e.: painting the entire front of the sensor) changes its vibration characteristics and may lead to erroneous readings. In addition, have them confirm less sensitive sensor part 0045428718 is installed.

Update

I took it back to the dealer with no great closure. They couldn't get the car to repeat the problem even though it did it twice on the way in. They said that no code is showing, so they're not sure where to go from here. The final answer was: "drive it for a while and after it does it for another month or so bring it back and we'll see if we get a code."

I've been told by repair shops that the sensors are not supposed to be painted. they should come already colored for your car from MB.

Are you sure your sensors were painted?

Sorry, saw that someone pointed this out already.

+1

They should be able to remedy the issue.

Oddly enough the problem has gone away on its own. I'm sure it will come back some day, with my luck the next drive after this post. Since I went in to have it checked out the second time I've been blessed with a silent Parktronic.

Stupid question, but just to verify - that diagram would be for a white-painted car, correct ?
Thx
