Replacing CLS...
I'm not sure what route I should go
My extended warranty is up in 10k miles and my extended warranty company has dropped THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS on repairs for my car. I can't afford it outside of the warranty.
I love it so much but am a little discouraged driving the now "old" bodystyle. This is my 2nd CLS55. The only car that's looking like a decent replacement is the CTS-V... and I can afford one for ~$50k used. Supercharged ZR-1 engine... just hate American cars :/

Just to play devil's advocate here...
-If the car has received thousands and thousands in warranty repairs, perhaps these replaced failed/broken parts are now good for tens of thousands of more miles. What were the major repairs done? Sometimes having these fresh, new parts on the car increases the car's lifespan considerably. You'd potentially be selling a more reliable car than what you've been driving pre-repairs.
-Depending upon what you've had repaired, it could save you major $$$ to drive the car out of warranty and just put some $$$ aside for repairs, compared to paying a full car note on a warrantied car. ~$1000/month car note (or $500, whatever you've paid) can be more expensive than occasional repairs, even if they are expensive at the time.
I'm sure you've already considered these angles, but just in case...

Not everyone's cup of tea but what about a Lexus IS-F? Since you don't want the american car route. Haven't heard about any major issues with them.

If he was going to go the Lexus IS-F route he might as well pick up a 2009 M3 or C63. Based on car reviews (online and magazines) of the IS-F that I have read (and only take this with a grain of salt), the IS-F, while quite a beast (5.0L 32 valve V-8 417hp with 370? ft. lbs. torque), being a first year edition of a "supercar" saloon for Lexus, it is not as refined (all-around) as the M-3 and C63 AMG. Now, to each his own (as kostas86 said), but if I was about to drop $50,000 on a nicely used vehicle, I would choose a model that had proven, year-in and year-out, build quality and design. The price point you are looking at gives you many options, make sure to think through each one.

..... or get the new ZL1 Camaro 550 HP that will be out in January for 50k with the CTS-V engine. I'm not a GM fan(lost $) on the stock plus I had an 05 CTS-V and didn't care much for it. I will say though they are raising the bar for BMW and Mercedes to compete in the hp races.

I'd be looking at C63's... Don't know if you need the size though.
Or nice low milage E63's. If you're concerned about maintenance costs a NA engine might be the best road to travel.
