To test the alternator start the car and jump the positive and negative terminals with a voltmeter. Readings should be over 13.5 volts. I would imagine you would get a warning message if the vehicle isn't charging properly. What is going on that is making you want to check the alternator?

The sign that SCS malfuction, battery malfuction.
The problem start one day as i was driving the car the battery symbol appears and drive to workshop, i drove taht day to my house and the car disable the braking system. Afterwards change both battery's. Main battery and auxilary battery but did not resolved my issue. Now i can't even drive the car to the dealer i will have to towed. When i start the car i check battery with voltmeter and shows 17.80 VDC. However it disable transmision and all my light the interior turn off liked has some kind of short... If you have any sugestions please let me know

You need to change both battery's I use generic battery's did not work until install OEM you want to change both battery's the one small one is under the hood and other on the trunk.

I just had to replace my alternator on my CLS55 at 66K miles. I swapped the voltage regulator first hoping it was that, but no such luck. At least the alternator is easier to change on a CLS55 than an E55. There's more room between the frame rails.

both my rear and front batteries are quite different from OEM and everything's more than OK

here is my situation with the voltage in the car
its a 2006 cls 55 amg
at idle does not charge, shows battery voltage
when i rev it up around 1500, voltage goes up to 14, 14.1 volts
while driving tends to stay around 14v, but as soon as rpms drop, seems to stop charging
any ideas?
