Thinking of buying a 06 cls 55...

Hello guys.,

I currently drive a 08 C 350 but a newbie on the cls 55 and I'd really appreciate if you guys could be kindly enough to put some information about these cars.

1. What are the known problems on these cars? I've heard that suspension errors (bags) are the well known problem of these 55s.

2. I've also heard about some problems on the Kompressor and transmission too. How is the overall reliability on those?

3. I'm thinking of buying a high milage car (around 40-50k miles), so I can save some for the mods. Is that a good idea?

4. Also, I don't understand the packages on these cars. Can you please explain some of those? I've never seen one with the panoramic roof. Are they out there.?

Here are some of the mods I'm thinking...

1. Renntech V2 ELM
2. Vossen CV3s 20"s
3. Eurocharged (what do you guys think about this company? any recommendations?)
-ECU tune
-TCU tune (is it worth the $$$?)
4. Brabus style CF grille (where do I get this?)
5. Rocket bumper (not sure. I might just go with a CF lip)
5. CF diffuser (still looking.. I like the one with the fins.)
6. I've seen some with the black housing headlights. Did they paint those or are they aftermarkets?

Thanks a lot for your time...

40k miles is not a high mileage car in my books. 60-70k is high mileage. make sure you buy an aftermarket warranty with the car. i've had mine since August of 2011, bought it with 45k miles on it, currently sitting at 53k, and so far a few things have gone wrong. the GPS antenna died, window regulator went out, SRS light came on, needs a new clock spring, Check engine light came on for a leak in the evap canister, keyless entry door handles all but one died.... car's going into the dealership tomorrow, should be a hefty bill for the warranty company.

wow.. the thing is., I won't be able to use the warranty cuz' I will be shipping it bac to my country which has no warranty service(so, it comes everything out of my pocket ). I'm thinking of buying the car at the end of this month or March so may b a month that car will be here before I ship it... Anyway., thanks for the input... I guess I hav to look for lower mileage car.?

Dont let low mileage fool you, I have an 07 CLS63. I got the car with 17K miles, and at 32K the motor mounts needed to be replaced. Luckily the car was under extended warranty and saved me $880. No matter the mileage, these car are not safe from repairs. Just be ready to pay when things go wrong! Other than that, I have had no other problems with the car.

I think each car is different. I bought my cls55 in Aug at 48k miles and have not had one single issue thus far. If you plan on getting the car without a warranty (which I did) I would highly suggest knowing the history of the car. Obviously, that doesn't prevent future issues from occuring but it gives you an idea of whether or not the car is "problem prone"

2006 CLS55 AMG Sold 2010 E550 Coupe totaled '13 SL550 current and loving it!
I got my CLS55 back in Oct..put about 4k on it. I love it but might be looking at a Bently CGT during the summer. Great car, looks to kill, breaks necks everywhere I go. You can't go wrong with this car, I have no warranty and knock on wood, nothing has gone wrong yet. It is currently sitting at 33k on the clock and runs like a champ. Going to perform service F in the next couple weeks. Worst thing about the car is you can't keep the tires from spinning lol. Good Luck with your decision.

FWIW I have a highly modded CLS55 for over two years now and have had 0 issues not related to the modification of the vehicle.

Know this:
1. Motor mounts are consumables...On a modded motor they might not last 10K ...deal with it. They can be replaced for $300 labour included.
2. Air suspension can go out. It it does, there are options for either Arnott Bags, or whole conversion to spring suspension with coilovers
3. Motors and trannys are bulletproof with the correct care. Even modded one.
4. If you get a P030 package car, brakes are horrendous to replace. If budget is a concern, avoid them. Regualr cars brakes can be done for $500-700 for fronts.
5. The car is sure to put a smile on your face.

Thank you for the heads up bro.. I really appreciate it.. Any input on the mod list bro.? W 219 accessories are very hard to find on this forum.. As far as I've found are the lip and diffuser (just only the plain one, no fins). I couldn't even find the 3pcs cf spoiler. Also does anyone one here has the experience with Eurocharged ECU/TCU tunes.?

we can surely help you out with whatever you mod goals are! The tcu and tune tune, coupled with a pulley make the car a completely different monster!

We have over 4000 customers, here are some customer testimonials.

We are also running a sale on a pulley and tune, that lasts for another week!

Well that ones basically brand new, so you are going to pay for it. There is nothing wrong with a 30-40K mile car. That is just break in mileage on these overengineered beasts. As for mods, just look at my signiture. I have most of them.

Wow.. I'm so in love with your car..
I don't really know about the half of your mods tho... lol...
ASP 185mm Pulley (I'm guessing this is the pulley that runs the super charger?)
TTM 82mm TB kit (TB = Timing Belt?)
Ported surge tanks (Ported)
PLM Heat Exchanger/CM30 (is this some kind of intercooler?)

Would you be kindly enough to explain how these work? (It's a shame that I don't know about these but I'd like to learn) Also, Where can I get the 3pcs spoiler, is that CF? Which one would you recommend for the CF diffuser.? Thank you so much for the input bro...

lol

He has a 185mm crank pulley.

Tb= upgraded throttle body LINKY

Ported= material taken away to flow better

PLM is a manufacturer of heat exchangers. CM30 is the pump for the cooling system. You will need one soon, lol The stock pumps suck.

He also upgraded the injectors to 550s and has our tunes...ie Jerry tune (lead tuner at eurocharged)
