High pitched noise coming from engine
It's a very high pitched noise which seems to go away when I rev the engine, or while I'm driving. It may just be because the engine noise drowns it out, not sure.
I've not noticed any idle problems, problems in acceleration or shifting issues, so I'm not sure what this might be. Somewhat afraid of what the dealer might say, as the warranty is up.
I've searched the forums and only found one that is similar to mine, that talks about the same noise being a torque box converter.
Any insight?
Noise is not from one side of the engine, sounds like it's from the middle now. High pitched constant noise at low rpm, or idle. When I turn the car off, it makes a louder high pitched noise for about 2 seconds, and then fades out. It also sounds like it's decompressing while it's making that noise, as it sounds like air is coming out.
No drivability problems at all. Any ideas?
I just found something on this forum that might be the answer. I'm going to try the dipstick thing to see if the sound goes away, and then just take it to the dealer and hope for the best.
DTB S-B-01.20/24 FEB09 ML63, C63, CLK63, E63, CL63, CLS63, S63, SL63, and R63 up to engine # 156698x 60 022000 - whistling sound from the engine compartment (in the area of the firewall) the cause may be a malfunctioning diaphragm in the pressure-regulating valve. The sound can also be heard for up to several seconds after the engine is switched off. The sound goes away when the engine dipstick is removed. To resolve, the valve is replaced.

I took it into the dealership today, had a tech look at it. The service writer said that he talked to his lead tech and they have not had one person come in to that dealership with that DTB and that it was very obscure.
They called me back, and indeed said that it was the pressure valve that needed to be replaced, and that it sits behind the intake, etc, etc.
$675.00 Total Cost. Going to pick it up at the end of the day or tomorrow.
Do you think that there are any dealers that would pick up this cost for a car out of warranty, with a known DTB?

the only way to check if dealers will pick up the cost without warranty is to call around..
some dealers are a pain in the a** and others will do anything for you..
