W219 CLS55 > W218 CLS63 ?
Hey all,
I haven't been on the forums for a while, been very happy with my 2006 CLS55 Designo Graphite, which has the Renntech Stage V performance package and lower module, Euro COMAND unit for video-in-motion, Brabus shift knob and illuminated door sills, Lorinser roof spoiler, and Vellano forged wheels plus some a bunch of other stuff.
Car has been very reliable but recently had some major expense replacing the brake calipers/rotors and both front air struts. Made me think it might be time to get a new car... and find a private shop that does quality M/B work as the dealership bumped their labor rate to $150/hr!
I do like the new CLS design, it's a bit more aggressive and while I had little interest in the 6.2L N/A engine, the biturbos are interesting and seem to have a good bit of extra performance potential.
Anyone else go from a 219 > 218 ? Thoughts ?? Worth going for AMG again ? The CLS550 has been improved from the old CLS500 and being a biturbo it should be able to get a nice bump in power with Renntech or other aftermarket tuners.

Had the 219 with PP for 3 years and now I have the 218 with PP for about a year.
Personally I don't think there is a comparison. But if you're a NA guy....

My 219 has the 5.5L Kompressor engine, with the Renntech package it gets about 625hp (crank) on the dyno... I never considered the 6.2L NA engine as a decent upgrade, except for its exhaust note.
I'm more interested in how the W218 biturbo performs and how the overall build quality is compared to the W219. Question is whether to stay with the CLS class or go after a CL. I considered a Porsche Panamera Turbo but just don't love the way it looks.

I've seen Panamera Turbos get some lipstick and turnout OK. Im sure you know that its significantly more expensive.
I'm not a fan of the CL, again for the $ delta, but it also depends what you want this car for?
The M157 is a beast of an engine with huge potential. I have more power to my axles than you do to the crank and to all of our surprise hit 816ftlb of torque @ 2900rpm on the dyno...and we're not done. I rather spend the money modding this car out than start of with a Pana or CL but this is just my opinion. The Pana turbo s is a pretty sick car though...
