The dreaded fuel smell
I decided to keep the car and literally the next day I fill it up and smell gas. I tracked the problem down to this cover thing on the passenger side of the tank. By the looks of the plastic we are all going to be buying one at some point because they are all going to fail with age. Does any body know what to call it? And or where to get one? I'll buy a block of plastic and carve one before I go to the service center here.

Ooopps. Couple more hours of the search feature and I find it's a full recall # 2008020001 Thanks Kevin M.
On Ebay I discovered that it's called a fuel pump/sending unit, because that is what you have to buy to get the cover. I wonder if I have to let the dealer tear into my car to get the updated version?

The service center is actually trying to help me out. I'm impressed, but they say my VIN doesn't qualify and they won't get paid to do it unless they can fix that some how. Bummer.

Nice pics of it, yes that is the fuel sending unit, about at $500 part, if you have a good dealer they may pay for the part and you cover labor, my dealer was great and got the entire job covered.
