Smaller wheels for cls55 / potholes
Hello everybody, long time lurker, first time poster here, trying to do some research for finding some smaller wheels for my 06 cls55.
I commute to D.C. and have been getting nailed by potholes. I popped two fronts last month, got a bubble on another front later, then yesterday I go to check and found I had bubbles on all freakin four. Ive never so much as damaged a tire before this winter.
It seems the smart thing to do is get a smaller set of wheels to use in the winter. Does anyone know for sure which wheels can fit, or is there some method I could use to determine this? CLS550 and CLS500 wheels fit, right? Im pretty much trying to find the cheapest, legit wheels that fit without issue, looks be damned.

I would stay far away from 20's and stay even further away from those pot holes!

CLS55
after my 2nd set of 20 inch wheels bent, i gave up and went to 19's, they are actually a better performer, better ride and better launches, and i dont have to worry about bending wheels anymore.

Dealer told me 18's wouldn't fit over my brakes. That was a non p030 car (my first one). Also there is a ball joint bolt above the front ones, not much wiggle room. Find a way to try the 18" rim, the dealer only knew what the computer told him.
