Instrument Cluster Details

I recently swapped my W211 instrument cluster with an AMG W219 cluster. It looks really nice, but I have a question nobody on the other forums will be able to answer, except YOU over here.

When I turn on the headlights or when they're on AUTO, I do not get an indication if the lights are on or not. On the W211 cluster you get a green "icon" on the cluster indicating the headlights are on. Actually, I like it that way without any green "icons".

Any feedback would be appreciated.

On the W219 the indicator is next to the headlight switch and turns green when the switch is turned from off to one of the activation positions.

I came across this thread as I'm about to perform another cluster swap. I can't answer your question, but I can offer some insight.

It also drives me crazy that I do not have the green "icon" on my w211 E55 when it was present on others I've owned.

Here is my experience with the cars I've owned:
1) 2006 w211 E500 - Has green icon
2) 2006 w211 e320 - Has green icon
3) 2004 w211 E55 (stock) - NO Icon
4) same 2004 w211 e55 (with CLS55 200mph cluster) - NO Icon

I've seen videos on youtube of various E55s. Some have it, some don't. I really wish I knew why.

If cars were built during Oktoberfest, they came with green icons, those that were built other times, did not get them

Still no green icon for me even with the E63 cluster.

I wonder if it's coded into the PCB?

Answering my own question: I tried both PCBs and still no green headlight pictogram.

I wonder why some cars (same model, same year) have it and some don't
