SCREECHING windows...

Getting fixed by MB to the tune of $1750 for both fronts. Turns out the regulators are bad. $350 each one and 3.5 hrs labor ($130/hr) plus tax. Thankfully my after market warranty is covering them (minus my $100 deductible).

When I read "screeching" I though you meant the squeal I hear from the glass against the rubber seal. My fronts do that -- especially the passenger side. I doubt the previous owner ever opened them up.

It could be the regulator or the cable. My driver side was doing that exact noise before the cable snapped and I ended up with a window that wouldn't go up. MB replaced the regulator/cable assembly.
Check the speed your windows go up, if it's slowing down its definitely the regulator.

It is the regulator, which is connected to the cable. The cable will snap sooner or later.
