Yesterday I went out and started my 2006 CLS55 and was presented with a red center on the speedometer that said "VISIT A WORKSHOP" OR "GO TO A WORKSHOP" I can't remember exactly. in that red center was an icon of a battery with the plus and minus signs. Then down at the bottom was the information that is usually there e.g. the temperature and how many miles I have gone since resetting the trip odometer.

I called mercedes and made an appointment. They suggest it could be that secondary battery under the hood or the alternator or the starting battery. Since there was no fire, no smoke, no flashing lights just that red center with those words "VISIT A WORKSHOP" I am assuming that it is that secondary battery under the hood.

My starting battery is only a year old. I replaced the original when I bought
the car last December. No other warning lights were present. When I started the car after the phone call to Mercedes the red center was gone and everything was normal ...

Anyone have that same experience? Was it that secondary battery?

I've had a similar problem recently and it was my alternator. So most likely it since you changed your starting battery, it is your alternator/ regulator or aux battery.

you should test your alternator

Get. DVOM and test alternator output and battery voltage. Red on the dash means money for the dealer.

Front battery that lives under the hood on the right hand side was the culprit. MB changed it and it's all good ... Popeye
