Would someone mind double checking my wheel offset calculations?

Even after a dozen cars with aftermarket wheels I am still somewhat confused by offsets.

I have a CLS63 with the standard AMG 19s. My buddy is offering to trade me the same style and size wheel, but with a dark gunmetal powdercoat. He isnt sure anymore which AMG they came from, but he believes its an E63. The question is the offsets.

According to the manual and on here, our cars are Front: 25 and Rear: 28. The wheels he has are Front: 30 and Rear: 31. As far as I can tell, this means the wheels will sit 5 and 3 mm further into the wheel well than my stock wheels, correct? So if i want to at least equal the wheel well stance of the factory wheels, i will need at least 5 and 3mm spacer.

Am I understanding offsets and wheel position correctly, or am I totally off base?

Thanks for the help guys.

Sounds right. Spacers are not ideal. Correct offset is better. Maybe have yours coated?

Thanks for following up. I wanted to avoid spacers if i could. Powdercoating mine is an option as well, I just might go that way.

Agreed. Correct offsets are way to go (vs. using spacers) although the small difference going into the wheel well may not be that noticeable. You also need to consider the wheel widths - are they the same width? for 1/2 inch wider wheel widths those increased offsets may work fine.

Refinishing / powder coating your existing wheels seems like the best route (and should be fairly reasonable cost).

There is a lot of negative talk about spacers because the amount of cheap knockoffs that have been made. If you go with a quality Hub Centric Spacer you will have no worries. H&R is a very reputable brand. Make sure to purchase through one of their authorized distributors.

Spacers are fine but try to go with Brand name like Eibach and H&R I have 12mm H&R on the rear of my car and I run 13" wide wheels no issues at all
