New (to me) 2011 CLS63 - Woot!

Hey guys,

Just bought a gorgeous 2011 W219 from a Land Rover dealer in Houston. Should get delivered in a couple weeks or less (transport to WDC)

Has the P01, P15 and Y85 options. Pretty much exactly what I wanted, with only 39k miles on the clock !

I've been looking for just the right CLS63 for months now. So glad I finally found one.

Probably going to do some murder stuff (wheels, chrome, emblems blacked out), as well as an exhaust and ecu upgrade.

May even go for a total de-badging, will have to have the car in hand for awhile before making those kinds of decisions.

Few questions for you experienced W219 owners (since I had a Porsche 993 right up until I decided on the AMG):

-Are there clear sidemarkers available aftermarket?

-What's your best option for a second smart key?

-I love the wheels on this car, but would like them black. Anyone have experiences with powdercoating or anodizing?

Who's got the best ECU upgrade?

Welcome your thoughts and ideas,

Cheers...
Rob

What a beaut! Definitely looks clean.

-Yes, there are clear side-markers available. Most people turn towards eBay for them. I think I paid around $40 for a pair some 4 years ago. IMO, you may want to paint yours black since your car is black, and also because you are considering the "murdered-out" look. The clear markers would stand out too much.

-I was quoted $4xx for another key. Since I'm the only one who drives it, it didn't seem worth it to me. I'm not sure there's a cheaper route to go than to purchase directly from MB for this.

-I've had a set of HyperSilver powdercoated wheels for the past 3 years and have zero complaints

-I'd recommend Eurocharged for ECU tuning. Reputable products/service and pretty decent gains.

Enjoy your beast!

Congrates! looks awesome...
I agree with what Flo1989 have said. And I add to it some new tips:
1- Have an OBD2 scanner handy for any errors that may come up on dash. I use a WIFI one with an iphone app (Carley for Mercedes).
2-check if your engine is included in the line of M156 engines affected by the "Head bolt" issue. And if so, its preferable that you inspect/change them as a preventive measure.
3-Get an extended warranty, since you are buying it from Land Rover, I'm not sure if you can get an "Benz" extended warranty as any break down will cost u a fortune. I paid for mine $4500CAD and by now it paid back over $12000CAD!!!
4-If you want to tune the engine, I strongly recommend that you change the exhaust system (straight pipes, X pipes or catless) as changing the engine software with no hardware change will result in breaking something (the weakest part usually).
5-enjoy the beast!

Hey Flo and Neo...

Thanks much for the advice and recommendation. Forgot to put in my post that I'm totally going to do an exhaust upgrade of some sort, early on. Looking right now at Meister or Brabus (rear mufflers), but am also thinking about headers for a little more power and better sound.

Neo, I heard about the head bolt problem with some M156 motors... Do you know if there's an easy way to check if mine may be included in the potential list?
- And I am SO going to do the extended warranty, just need to go to my local Merc dealer to grab the right one. Suggestions on who's the best?

The "Search" is your friend in this forum! C63 section has tons of threads. also technical forum had M156 headbold thread. you can find out using your car's VIN. but I doubt yours has this issue as its 2011 and most models were corrected after 2010. but check either ways.
RE: warranty, Unfortunately, I'm not US based so I really don't know anyone there, also the "search is your friend here try the warranty section in the forum.
Post pics of your beast when you get it!
Good luck and drive safe

Hey Pella.

I'm a member of USAA. Just looked at their website, and that looks like the way to go. Thanks for the advice. (They are WAY cheaper than the extended warranty that the dealer was trying to sell me!)

Yes I have the 3 year plan for my car. Have only had it two months and they have covered almost 7k in repairs already. They even paid for the fluid when I had a transmission leak
