Question New boy Questions/Issues!

Hello all,

Firstly, this forum, (especially the CLS 55 posts! ) are so damn helpful! Loads of great help and advice, always great to see.

So, I recently bought a 2006 CLS 55, stunning stunning drive. Near standard, but does have x-pipe and remap which makes it sound like music! After resolving the issues below I will be looking at replacing the s/c pulley.

Even though I could quite happily live in the new car I do have a few issues that I need to get to the bottom of, hopefully I can pick some brains on here!

Here goes:

Squeal/Chirp/Whistle
Upon acceleration or de-acceleration I hear a pretty loud chirping sound. Anywhere around 1200-2000rpm. It can get pretty loud and when driving around town can be embarrassing! I have read this could be the supercharger and get be resolved by using Graphite spray.....any thoughts on this one?

Sat Nav - No Satellites
The Navigation shows no satellites. I have read this could be a GPS module issue and I could buy one from eBay or a dealer. Does anyone have any part numbers and/or How To's to replace this or to check the cabling? I am thinking of just replacing the whole head unit with one of the aftermarket Android setups but understand they won't interact with the steering wheel controls.

Rear Window Demister Not Working
The rear window does not demist at all. When misted up there is no part that starts to dissipate if I switch it on from the dashboard. The light comes on but that is it. I am wondering if this is linked to the Sat Nav issue if that is the GPS wiring and could be an issue with the cabling/power getting to the rear? Unsure what to check first!

Any help with any of the above would be great! Either way...none of the issue are dampening my child-like excitement for this car!

when you say chirping it may be normal, it sounds normal when you state it like that. Check all other pulleys are not squeak them, take belt off and spin each one (Most common is idler pulley)

Nav and Rear window my only guess is a fuse.

As for the nav: The splitter connections get corrosion on them. Clean them up and you should be good. The chirp is from slipping belt. New belt and maybe a new belt tensioner should take care of that. I would not put any type of aftermarket, smaller, pulley on the super charger. You risk trashing the super charger and possibly the whole motor.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciated.

Re the squeal noise - On idle and up to 2k rpm either upon acceleration or removing foot from gas that is the only time I can hear the squeal/chirp noise. I thought this could be the well known 55 Kompressor chirp, however this is pretty loud and sounds like a loose belt or something spinning quickly. Someone said that if it was the belts squealing to pour a bit of water on them to confirm if the belts are the issue from belt squeal but no change.

It is most likely your idler pulley, The 2 on the left of the engine that are double stacked, Remove the belts and spin them, they should spin freely and not have play or make noise. If they are the OEM plastic ones I would upgrade them and buy the billet aluminum ones, they are available at eurocharged and many other places for around 170$

Definitely sounds like one of your pulleys coming from up front, let me know if you're able to diagnose which pulley and send picture/questions to our sales@eurocharged.com email and we will gladly help you out.

Thanks
