How to remove shifter console trim

I did not want to hijack an earlier post about the shifter console trim so I started a new post. How the heck is this trim piece removed. I read you just pull it up from the front by the ashtray but I could not move mine. Any one the technique ?

Shifter console removal.

I've tried several times to remove mine but stopped because I was afraid to break it. Could you please re-post the attachment? I'm trying to replace the pop up cup holders. Thanks.

I tried it once, when you get the ashtray out of the way, pull it back toward the rear of the car hard and lift up on the front. The harder you pull back, the easier the front lifts out. Post the rest of what you learn please, I need to change my cup holders too.

I tried again, got it to move about 1/8" upward. I pulled as hard as I could but resisted the urge to use a prying tool. I just changed the top piece by pushing the button and lifting it out. Now on to the squealing window issue.
