Headlamp leveling diagnosis
- Issue: Driver's side Bi-Xenon lowbeams do not perform self leveling, and is too aimed too low.
- Vehicle and context: '09 CLS63 AMG w/P30, recently acquired, apparently this system was missed in PPI, and I didn't do a test drive at dark so this was overlooked.
- Information: No dash messages or STAR errors regarding active headlamp system.
- Passenger's side (autoleveling working) was recently replaced. Assembly and light quality looks good. Driver's side light seems considerably more yellow, and the assembly lens has internal cracking/bubbling.
- Attempted fix: I've performed the washer shim mod over the leadscrew (found in the thread linked above) without removing the motor from the assembly. This did not solve the issue.
- Manual height adjustment of Driver's side is possible, and is retained after being set. This is the temporary fix until the proper solution is found.
- Hypothesis: The motor is not turning. I noticed that the motor lead's wire insulation was very fragile and partially broken, but not shorting.
- Is there a possibility that there's a heat related issue? Indicated by yellowed light, condition of lens, condition of motor wire insulation.
