CLS 63 AMG Check Engine Light with a mid of it's own.

Searching for a little advice other than from my local Merc tech on a sporadic check engine light issue on my 2010 CLS 63 AMG. What I have noticed is that at start-up, the engine will usually fire at a higher rpm and then settle out within a minute or so. This is when the check engine light is off and all systems are go. However, over the last six months, I have been noticing that when I fire up, the engine turns over fine and idles well but at normal rpm even though the engine is stone cold. In addition, when this occurs, I get a brief metallic rattle from the under carriage which is hard to pin-point but if I didn't know better I would suggest from the exhaust run somewhere since the growl of start-up is annoyingly missing. This is a come and go situation whereby the light is off for a few tanks and then out of the blue, back on for 3 (cap is solid by the way). Thoughts anyone?
