Hello, please help me understand what I'm looking at. Slid the new bearing on just for reference.

If this is basic or stupid, I apologize in advance because I'm not a car guy. What is this flared piece surrounding the old bearing? Is that part of the bearing and comes off as one piece? How does it come off?

I'm asking because none of the DIYs have shown a bearing that looks like this and checking with you guys before I damage something. Thanks in advance.
