Looking to buy a CLS55/63
CLS55 manual shift mode

I think I have an issue when using the manual shift mode and can't tell if it's a transmission issue or dirty/ sticky shifter buttons. It seems, more pronounced on 1st to 2nd shift that the button on the steering wheel will not shift into 2nd under acceleration I have to let off and literally mash it like 2-3 times.

Also is 1st gear supposed to be so jerky? Fells like some dead spots, misfires under mild acceleration but fine under full smash...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 👍
oh it's a 2006 CLS55 with73000 miles

How does your CLS55 shift using S mode in 1st and 2nd? Do you have any DTC codes for trans or engine? Do you still have stock TCU for transmission? The stock TCU is rather delayed with manual shifting. When you press a manual shift button does the gear change reflect on the dash. Have you tried manually shifting with your shift lever and if so were results the same?

Shifts fine in S mode however the RPMs will hang up from time to time if I let out just before the next shift, it will hold that gear till I slow down. No codes at all. As far as I know the TCU is bone stock as is the entire car. Manual shifting does display on the dash fine. Using the shifter lever yields similar results, seems like it doesn't want to go too 2nd till I let off.

Hello, have you tried resetting the transmission shift adaptations? If not give it try its very easy:

1. Turn key to on position (farthest you can without starting car)
2. Depress gas to WOT for 10 full seconds
3. Turn key back to off position (leave pedal depressed)
4. Leave key in ignition in off position and release pedal
5. Wait about 2 minutes and remove key
6. You can now drive or start car later

I have not, however I don't see this fixing the hanging up issue as well as the no shift in manual mode. Think I'm gonna try doing a transmission service as I'm sure it has most likely never been done.

generally on these transmissions you will have more issues come up after changing the fluid especially if its never been done. its recommended to leave the fluid as is; sounds crazy i know
send a picture of your paddle button, i might have a spare i can send you, pay the shipping

when you go full throttle does it feel at a certain point like it misfires?
my e55 had an issue at 60-70 at full bore where it would jerk bad. ended up being the tq converter

Not at full throttle. I get a slight "jerk" it s best as I can describe it, only under slight throttle in 1st gear manual mode. If you dip into the throttle more aggressively it does not do it. Very weird.
