The CLS65 in mid 05?

The speed of introduction surprises me as much as that the same V12 engine is supposed to be used for it (which was not the plan for the E65)
With the CLS63 replacing the CLS55 within 12 months of introduction (early 06), I wonder if I should not change my order. Even though the 55 is more powerful than the N/A 63 engine, the new one should have more tuning potential.
Then of course there is the perceived differenciation from the countless 55's which have gone downstream all the way into the C-class, which may/will impact the resale value.
Also, I expect that the premium of the CLS65 over the CLS55 will be smaller than the SL/etc. so this maybe the car to get.

Don't forget, the CLS63 will also come with the new 7 speed tranny, so expect performance slightly better than the CLS55. Also, fuel consumption should go down as well, the Kompressor motor seems to have a large thirst and that is fine and dandy if it only had a bigger fuel tank. Direct Injection should increase mileage all by itself as it is a more efficient way to get the fuel where it needs to me and in the exact quantities appropiate.
One more plus for the CLS63, can everyone together say "Kleemann. Kompressor.......", very good, now all together say, "600 to 650 horse power.....". Ahhhh, I feel much better already.
The latest rumors about the 6.3 liter M156 motor put hp levels from 500 to 570 hp with a slight drop in torque. If and when Mercedes gives the green light for the "Holy Grail" Bi-Turbo 6.3 L V8 for the new McLaren P8 or SLS mid-engine supercar, rumors again put the level around 700 hp mark. But we will probably not see this engine for quite some time, 07 and beyond. When the P8/SLS comes out expect the N/A 6.3 engine at first followed a year or 2 later with with the Twin Turbo.
Just my 2 cent here.
Who says car therapy doesn't work???

BTW, get the CLS55, let a year pass, then trade up for the CLS63. Simple.

I should have also mentioned that this was the planned release of the car itself, not any type of US availability or timing.
Personally, I found MT pretty clueless on any future MB projections. That said, the N/A 6.3l M156 engine seems to be the most realistic one to come to market, even though to replace a SC engine with a N/A one seemed silly to me.
I have not heard hp numbers like 500-570; the hp numbers I have seen are identical to the 55 engine with 100nm less torque. Also, to expect performance greater than the 55 engine just due to the 7G transmission also appears to be a bit of wishful thinking. The .2 sec speed increase will most likely be used to make up for a slower engine. Consider that even the high-revving M5 engine does not match the CLS55's 0-60 speed and you will not see these type of engine characteristics in a Mercedes anytime soon.
I will most likely still get the CLS55, simply because it's set for European delivery and I would get it de-restricted
Should be a fun ride...Wolfman
PS I think we will get much better info on the engines once we near the introduction of new S-Class
