Remember, it is only sold by word-of- mouth and NEVER on eBay. The cost is $149, which includes USPS Priority Mail shipping. The badge is extremely sturdy but not invincible! Customers should clean it by hand washing using mild soap + water. Apply a coat of high-quality auto polish + wax every few months to keep it looking fresh. NEVER use a power-washer on it. NEVER run it through an automatic car wash.

When I bought my E63 from an MB dealer a couple of months ago I was talking with an older salesman there and we were discussing how great AMGs are and I expressed how excited I was to finally own one. He was a really nice fellow, and after our conversation he went over to his desk, dug through a drawer and handed me this AMG badge... I graciously accepted and thanked him.
I never installed it and just found it in my nightstand and decided to research it... could this be an original vintage AMG badge I have read about? It is definitely used, the front enamel is a bit hazy and dinged up like it spent some years on a hood, also the backside has a little surface corrosion.
It doesn't seem to match the reproductions shown in this thread... Is this a rare/ valuable piece?

Let me know what you think about it!

Not rare and not vintage.
I was one of two people making these many, many years ago (2002). I sold them here and then on eBay. After I started selling them on eBay, copies - some good, some not so good - started popping up everywhere. People, including some on this board, were even stealing/using my photos.
These were never made by MB and were actually copies of the design of the AMG emblem that is found on the engine block of AMG engines.
There is an original AMG logo emblem, from which these were copied. It is made of soft metal and has a piece of very thin double sided tape on it. I will post a photo tomorrow.
Below is a photo of the ones I used to sell. Made of silver-plated metal with hard enamel coloring. Any company who sells challenge coins and the like case make these (the process is cloisonne). The ones I made after my first "test run" did not have a plastic top coating, like the photo of the one you posted.
You can have your own mass-produced by going direct to China, via AliBaba. Search for "cloissone", email the factory, send to them an EPS drawing with the Pantone colors. The average price to have these made when going direct is about $1.00 dollar each with a 500 piece minimum, plus shipping costs.
Back in the day, there was someone selling these for $150 per piece, and hyping it up by saying "word of mouth only" , or something to that effect.

I can confirm that it is not one of my badges. The second badge pictured is the original "Mario" badge, made of heavy, chrome-plated brass.
Recently, I have exhausted my last production of the original 45mm size.
I am considering making a new badge with a slightly larger diameter (47mm ?) to accommodate the newer models.
Would someone be so kind as to precisely measure the size that would work on the new models and reply to me? Thank you very much!

This is the badge you're looking for. It's made of heavy, chrome-plated brass with the color AMG/Affalterbach logo. It will fit the recessed hole when your MB star is removed. 5 minute installation via a threaded post - all hardware is included. It has never been sold on eBay and only via word-of-mouth. The cost is $149 payable via PayPal, which includes USPS Priority mail. I've attached a picture.
Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry, but no, I’ve been out-of-production for a number of years. At this point I have no plans to reinstate production. However, should things change, I will get the word out.
