Do you guys know where I can purchase the SL55 intake kit other than Evosport? I know dealer will have the y-pipe but not include other parts.

If you do a search, you'll find a bunch of threads that include part #'s and $ for the full SL55 intake (intakes, airboxes, and splitter)...

It is pretty straightforward though.

blendo, really? can you post some more info, as I did a search, but couldn't find the exact parts I need besides y-pipe and two hoses.

Blendo, thank you so much for your links, it's so helpful.

Unfortunately, I don't plan to upgrade the entire air-box but the y-pipe only, just don't know how to cut the hoses to fit it in. Anyway, I will order the parts from my local dealer and see how to DIY.

Spend the extra money and do the FULL SL55 Intake, it is worth it.

Fairly easy to install and makes good power in the stock setup, but works better with the pulley and software.

What's the deal with this SL55 intake? What are the benefits?

It only works on the C32 that I know of...bigger air boxes, inlet tubing and air flow meter (Y pipe). Does not work on the C55.

i was under the impression that the full sl55 intake was not bolt-on? but if it's easy to install i wouldn't mind doing it. right now i am deciding which air filters to get to complement the sl55 intake splitter. how much was your full sl55 intake kit, may i ask?

let me repeat.....BOLT ON. When you get it down it takes 15 minutes (done this because I swap back to stock when I go to the dealer for service).

2 Air boxes
2 Splitter to air box hoses (rubber)
2 Inlet Tubes (to air boxes)
1 Y Pipe/splitter

see the links above to the posts that have the part numbers.

k thanks 5150_C32. did you notice a difference in sound? and K&N filters in your opinion are superior to the others when mated to SL55 intake?

yes, the sound is improved....deeper.

K&N or Green Filters would be the way to go. Tried to see if ITG made panel filters for the SL55, but they do not.

sorry one more question. is it mandatory to switch to the 55 front engine cover when you do the full sl55 intake mod, or can you run the full sl55 intake without any modification to anything else at all? after searching i have read that some have done the 55 front engine cover, but not sure if this was a must. i am pretty sure that it is mandatory but just would like a little clarification. thank you

On a stock C32, just doing an SL55 splitter is worth 3-5HP. When power is raised to Stage II levels (low 400HP) a full SL55 setup is worth close to 10HP. It is a bolt on, however SL55 front cover will not fit.

i see...i am a bit confused now, in searching i saw that some members have the sl55 front cover, though not sure if it required modification to fit it? yet i also see that many just run the sl55 splitter (y-pipe, right?), which leads me to wonder why they didn't do the full sl55 intake system if it is a bolt-on (i am wondering if it's because getting full sl55 intake requires change in front enigne cover, if it fits btw, or just their own budget?) i saw part number for the sl55 front cover included in the list of parts to get for full sl55 intake, though not sure if this was optional, mandatory to fit sl55 airboxes, or something that would require custom fitment if needed. perhaps members with full sl55 intake can chime in? sorry if i am not understanding something here.

You do have to modify the SL55 cover to fit. That is the most time consuming item, involving cutting and moving/gluing mounts. However it requires no special skills, just time and is well worth it in the end.

5150_C32: thanks for your advise, however, I can't get the sl55 full intake box from my local dealer nor any other places, so I'd better just stick with spitter and drop in filter only.

By the way, I had an e36 M3 too, I just made a superchip updated, accompanied by drop-in filter, denso spark plugs, and supersprint exhaust only, but the car was already fast as hell(I mean it felt way faster than c32 because it's manual), since it's euro 321hp version, not the modded 328i US version.

It's generally a special order and any dealer should be able to do that. You may need a VIN #, but you can get that off of eBay.

only problem with moving and gluing brackets is that glue does not hold as well as a one peice mold. I mean I remove my cover a lot, especially when either the dealer, my tech, or i work under the hood and always taking that cover off and on constantly might make me edgy about using glue.
