I got the CLK grille from MBWerks and I'm very happy with it.
I suggest you grille.

Also, if you want to get technical the C55 grille does not attach to the hood except for that top chrome strip. Anyway, not having the bordering chrome strip on the sides of the stock grille is what I really like about it. It just looks more bad a$$ and its the only stock none star grille that does it.

I bought the grill from MBwerks beforethey raised the price! =D

I love it..

but I dont understand why all of a sudden people start to attack the idea of having a CLK grill on the C55...

I think its really a matter of personal preference...!

Both stock and CLK style looks nice

OK scovit, so what have u learned so far ?
If I had a C55, I'd probably leave the stock grille on.

Based on this thread, it appears that more C55 owners like the stock grille over the CLK grille.....but it is far from unamomous.

My original thought was, why change this for what I used to have? I had a lemon-lawed 05 CLK500... loved the look hated the car, plus, and this can't be understated, we have, that is, the C55 is a limited production car with its own identity.

One thing that has bothered me about AMG is that it is difficult to tell an AMG machine from the front, in any model. Nothing badged from the front, only the rear badge and distinctive pipes show the breed.

Putting a CLK on a C55 I think clouds that further, I think, though it does look good in some cases. That's why I mentioned loving to see the 06 grille w/ less slats on the C55.

What are your thoughts?

One more thing.....I don't see E55's changing their grille too often......maybe blacked out but why put the big star on?

Well I finally got around to installing my grille. Personally, I think it looks sweet... but, during the install I dinged my hood. I accidentally left the old clamp bracket on top of the engine and closed the hood... Oops. That created a dime sized outward dent on my hood. Unf**cking believable!!! Neal - hurry up and finished that silver CF hood.

Check out the pics (including the pictures with the dent!!!!)

... and yes, I know I need to lower my car.. LOL.

Nice look, it's undeniable....but from the front is it a CLK?

I think this is the point.

See that's what happens when you mess with perfection. Its a sign the car gods are telling you the stock grille looks better.

But seriously that sucks if I did that I'd be so pissed at myself I'd likely lose sleep over it. Any thoughts on fixing it? A good bodyshop might be able to push it back down without having to repaint the hood.

no *****.... I'm pulling my hair out as we speak. I can't believe that happened. I do everything humanly possible to avoid getting dents, dings or scratches and then that happens. Mother focker!!!!

As for fixing it, i've already called a couple paintless dent repair shops. Hopefully they can fix it... what do you guys think?

And, I agree with you... I'm probably going to loss sleep over this.

Well, I definitely think you should get it fixed even though some people might think its too small to bother with, but I get every little blemish I notice on my cars fixed because I'm nuts. I think the dent can be removed without painting, but if it can't (keep your figures crossed) the painted route will, but likely cost a considerable amount more. Also make sure whatever shop you take it to they have worked on Merc's before.

Agree. I used to be able to distinguish amg models by the shape of their front spoiler. But late models use AMG body kit as well. I used to get excited when seeing other AMG fellows driving their MBs with the same aggresive looking front spoiler and lower bodykit, .. but now they're everywhere.

Dragon: Is your CLK style grill from Mercedes? Is is a tight fitting piece after installation? My C55 has this grill but seems somewhat flimsy, as the top edge is not fastened tightly. Any suggestions?

Dragon...Did you pick up your CLK grille from MBwerks? It looks great. I understand that there is a Silver grille and Black grille. Which one is yours?

Yes, the grill is a OEM grill from Mercedes. It's mildly looser than the stock grill and I think this is because it doesn't bolt to the frame support. It only snaps together. I'd have to say for the most part it's snug and is not going anywhere.

Yes, I bought the grill conversion kit from MBwerks, as they were less expensive than my mercedes dealer. From what I can tell MBwerks basically just resells the OEM products as a "kit".

I went with the black grill.

oh one more thing about the grill..

you know how you have to remove the chrome strip from the top of the grill (or right below the hood)...

your engine bay area will be dirty soon...somehow after changing the CLK grill.....it allowed dust to come in the engine area....
