C32 AMG sportcoupe news?
i just got my July/Aug edition of THE STAR magazine (thank you MBCA!) and it says that the C32 AMG sportcoupe (fitted with a V6) will not be making its way into the US (yet), although it will be the least expensive AMG model in europe. it also says there will be a C320 sportcoupe that should hit the US by next summer.
i don't know if this is news, but i thought i'd post anyway...

Hmmm...my impression is that the C320 Coupe probably won't happen. MB seems pretty set on keeping it as a 4-cylinder model with several motors available in Europe while only the top-of-the-line motor is available in the US. A C320 Coupe would be too closely priced to the lower end CLKs (CLK 200, etc.) in Europe.
I also think that if an AMG C-Coupe vehicle is offered (not an AMG special - which is slightly more expensive than a C32) if it will not be with the 3.2L V6; I've heard rumors of a supercharged, 2.7L 5-cylinder diesel engine on which AMG has been working - my guess this would be the motor for the Coupe. This would preserve the C32 sedan's market postition, while providing an AMG Coupe at a good price point. Considering the popularity of diesels in Europe this seems to be likely (and will therefore, unfortunately, not be available in the US due to the poor quaility of our diesel fuel).
Cheers, BT
