Yeah. The butt dyno and the smokey 2-1 downshifts tell me it gained much more in the midrange.

Power under the curve baby!!

Cars and boats!
0-60 is a *******ized way to test a car's acceleration... its all about traction!!! Test the car in teh 1/4 mile for real acceleration results!!

0-60 in the low 5's..

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/seda...mg/index1.html

so it's not hard to do a "DYI 0-60" and get 5.8.. dig?

The stock C32 is between 5.1 and 5.3 in all the published data.. so a driver could easily time it a 5.8 on a stop watch by had.

Are you saying the C32 is quicker than the C55 or something?
Lighten up, Francis. First of all, the 32 and 55 are essentially equal in straight-line acceleration...your "mag racer" figures for the C32 are wrong, as the fastest recorded time was a 4.5 0-60 (Motor Trend, if I remember correctly), with averages around 5 flat (just like the C55). Where the 55 excels is in the twisties, where it apparently (I have not driven one) is quite an improvement over the 32.

Unlike most people, I do not believe that all diesel owners are treehugging commies. I am sure that you and your prolific family (which clan apparently owns an AMG used-car lot, but stuck you with a stinkpot) are bastions of yankee capitalism.

Keep up the good work comrade.

0-60 times are extremely close between a stock C32 and stock C55. I don't know where you're getting your mid 5's for a C32 vs low 4's in a C55

Funny, who's the elitest?

I'm detecting a bit of C55 envy.. And I need to lighten up?

I've had enough of this discussion. Jacko would sure love to hear you call me a commie, that would have him in tears.

Peace out..

oh.. btw.. the C55 0-60 according to the same magazine is 4.9sec.

Video of me doing 0-60 with C32

You can see I punched on the gas when the video was at 3.5 second ... and reached 60 mph at 9 second of the video. That's around 5.5 seconds but I did a bad launch with too much wheel spin PLUS i had a passenger. So a stock C32 should pull less than 5 seconds in 0-60.

C32 and C55's 0-60 times should be around the same, but on the highway it's a different story.

When the magazines test 0-60 and 1/4 mile times I'm sure its under near perfect conditions such as a perfectly flat track, little if any imperfections etc. In the real world I can understand how times could be a bit higher. The highway I tested my c32 on was anything but flat or free of imperfections. So I'm not too disappointed with a 0-to-60 time of 5.4. Again, that's with myself and a passenger. Oh, and if it matters, crappy Hankook Ventus for tires.........

FYI, my stock c32 reached 60mph in 4.9 to 5.05s on 30c hot day, recorded by g-tech.

Hi

When I had my R34 GTR skyline, magazines were quoting 4.6 s to 60. I tried it and got 5.8. Turns out they launched the car with 4500rpm and side stepped the clutch.

My C32 will not take full throttle from standstill without the esp intervening.
The best times are with esp off and holding the car on the brakes at 1800rpm.

I`m sure the variability is down to traction. These test figures are done with 'other peoples cars' and so little regard for mechanical sympathy.

I also think that to 60, the C32 will be slightly faster than the C55 because of the effect of the supercharger, but at higher speeds the extra power and torque of the C55 will dominate. There is also gearing to consider.

c'mon people leave the 0-60 tests to the mags.

benzo is right 0-60 means zilch more or less, its too dependant on traction and the drivers skill to indicate the performance of a car in the realworld let alonme judge whether or not a car has problems. If you start losing races from a roll to cars you shouldn't be losing to, only then you should start to worry.

My C32's 0-60mph is 4.98 seconds with ESP on. People who did 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds should bring their car back to the dealer and have it checked. In normal condition, C32 shouldn't go over 5.5 seconds in 0-60mph.

If you bought a C55 to get the best 0-60 time possible, you bought the wrong car. Timing it with a stopwatch while your driving is perhaps the most inaccurate way of measuring anything.

The best possible time FOR the C55 is obviously what I want. Clearly one doesn't buy a C55 for the best possible 0-60 time.?.?.?

I will try a Gtech.

Honestly you shouldnt be doing that before a minimum of 1000 miles. The car will get stronger as the engine breaks in.

The "pre-roll" value on the G-tech was set by the factory to around 12 inches. It's because you are allowed to roll out for a small distance before the timer starts on the drag strip, therefore first 0.5 second doesn't count.
You should set the pre-roll to 0 since most magazine's 0-60 test were done with zero pre-roll.

Yes, what he said. There are too many variables to base your assesment of a cars performance mostly on 0-to-60 performance...........

Elitest attitude? In case you haven't noticed your posting in the C32 AMG, C55 AMG (W203) forum and not the CDI crap you seem to enjoy. I have no care or interest what you drive or what your family owns. And you say I'm an elitist? lol. I also have no interest as to why you chose to drive a CDI. I never eluded to the "you can't afford a C32." And judging on the above posts, not many people agree with your findings. I take it the %10 of the supposed Mercedes you haven't driven includes the C32.

nice ..but the road looked a bit bumpy and had a downward grade...still could kick my butt

Bythe way the poster should wait for 1000mi then use a gtech...since c32/55 should be near the M3 as stated above...somewhere under the 5 second barrier. But then car mags are more accurate than anything we could do...or check out car stats

Update:

Picked up the G-Tech and did 3 more runs. No more until 1,500 miles...

Two runs were in the 5.4's, and one was in the 5.7s.

For a car with 200 miles, I am very happy. Things should improve further with another few thousand miles...and a feel for how to launch the car.
