Bag of Ice place on top of our S/C C32??
In reality all engines hate high heat and humid conditions, but our cars C32 seem to really perform as an average toyota camry.
I live in So Cal (inland empire) and when we have 95 degree heat, I tend to drive like an accord or camry. With such heat, at times I put my foot down on accelarator and it just seems to take a few more seconds to catch its breath.
We all know cooler air into our engines, keeping our engines cooler can do wonders. (SL55 intake, intercooler).
But I was wondering, if any of you have placed a bag of regular ice or dry ice on top of the supercharger and run with it on a track or your nearest lonely road?
A few months, Speed Channel's one of the muscle car shows perform tested an 04 SVT cobra SC 380hp vs. 04 STI Turbo 300hp.
Both cars ran neck to neck on that day. It was a really hot day and perfomance numbers suffered. They were running mid to high 13's.
One of the editors or drivers, placed a bag of ice on top of the Intercooler fan on the STI and on the SVT. The difference was apperant. They were able to save another .3 or .4 tenths of their times. Its an old trick probably for many people, but I have not seen it being used here with our C32's.
The possible consequence could not be worth the additional gain. Hot Metal and cold ice is not a good mixture. But the question is: do our superchargers get that HOT that placing a 5lbs of ice might cause damage?
your comments to my idea.
*this is to be used on single runs at the track or maybe on a friendly set up drag race with your friend's M3/S4/CTS-V/STI/Evo ect.
Some swear by it.....some think it's a waste....(the cryo)
I know DerekFSU (fastest street Benz on Dragtimes.com) swears by laying a big bag of ice right on top of the blower between runs....says it really helps a lot.
I would be inclined to by a special unit for the ice.....it's a special bag that won't leak...or worse...MELT. Course I can't find the darn link when I need it. Grrr....Will keep looking.
Here is the cryo system
