2006 SL65 ///AMG - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: 2005 E55; 2002 ML55; 2001 CLK55; 1992 BMW 850i; 1991 M5
Need Advice!

I am the proud owner of a 1992 BMW 850i that I have invested a great deal into: extrudehoned intakes, suspension mods, 18" staggered rims, Remus exhaust, bla, bla, bla. I also am in love with the new C55. Problem is I only have 1 extra garage bay that the 850 now occupies. My 8 only gets about 3K miles a year, and always gets countless looks because there are so few of them left in really nice shape. Heck, last week while filling gas, some guy hopped out of his car with a digital camera and asked if he could take a picture. It's real pretty, real heavy, not real fast, but has that "wow" factor that is kind of fun.

Anyway, there is an '05 C55 on the lot at the local dealership with 10K miles on it, plenty of warranty and a price of $48K. I am wondering what the new C55 owners think of their cars having driven them now for about a year. Still happy? Would you buy the same thing again given the chance? Is $48K a decent price for a certified 10K mile example in clean condition? Should I trade the 8 to make room in the garage for a newer, quicker, more reliable car that I am likely to use more than just 3K miles a year?

Any input appreciated!

You already have a CLK55. IMO, it would seem to be a little repetitive to have a C55 also. If it were me, I would probably go for a used Porsche Cabrio in lieu of the 850.

48K might be a fair price depending on where you are located, and the options on the car. I offered a price for a fully loaded, certified car with less than 7K miles for less than the car you are looking at. I almost had the deal done, but the dealership had others who were willing to pay more for the car My ofer was also "OTD" good luck and let us know what you decide

Good point on the issue of redundancy with the CLK55 ... one I have thought of already. I guess the main reason I was attracted to the C55 is that it is within my financial 'range' whereas an '03 or later E or CL or SL 55 at $70k plus is still a bit steep. My thought was to move the CLK to the third bay and make it the "toy" car: exhaust, ECU, pulley kit, etc. and leave the C55 basically stock as my daily driver. The back seat offers room for files, briefcase, passengers, etc. I would really love to have an E55 as the daily driver and and SL55 for tinkering ... (wouldn't we all) ... but I am not quite there yet!
