how to install reverse camera w/ COMAND?

I'd like to install a reverse (rear) camera? I saw a (Taiwanese?) brand "Swan" CMOS rear camera plus sensor that ables to measure distance and show measures on TV display. Very nice. The shop demo-ed it with a special rear view mirror that automatically "on" when reverse gear in position.

Got COMAND 2005 with TV tuner -how to add same camera with sensor that to COMAND and make TV monitor automatically "on" when reverse? Possible?

Nothing MB related (sorry)
I know you can hook up the camera to the TV tuner, but in order to get a picture when reversing, you have to go to the TV menu first, enter some options before you actually get a pic on the screen. Too time consuming, and you would have probably been able to park the car 5 times when doing so...

Why not get full parktronic for your C? Or maybe just the rear (park assist)?

greetingz,

Can you set it up so that the camera is always on and not just when the reverse gear is in position ? I was thinking to use it more to help with blind spot problems.

I know I have a DVD player attached to my Comand unit using MBenzNL's A/V adapter and the DVD player has an AUX in that allows for a reverse camera to be attached. I can't see why this wouldn't work well.

Well, it's a $ issue for a full parktronic. I love the techie-ness of it, you get rear view plus digital measure on display. Pretty neat. Fitting a 3rd party rearview mirror(w/ on reverse switch)+camera+sensors will costs me ~$500. It's not an MB option of course and not using COMAND.

Parktronic far must be more expensive?

The camera is actually useless. I have it in my Lexus and you cannot judge distance looking at a screen. You also cannot see clearly the corners of the car. Parktronic is way better as it acutally gives you audible and visual indicator of how close something is. The camera has a wow factor and is cheaper probably. The camera can be used with a comand with a a/v adapter but it WILL NOT switch automatically. You have to switch manually.
