suspension would be a good start, the car needs to be lowered. H&R coilovers gave me a good range of height adjustability, and the ride remained smooth and very comfortable while handling became noticably sharper and turn in was a little faster and more neutral. steering became a little more precise and felt less understeer. there are high options like Carlsson RS suspension. for my purposes, the H&R coilovers were great for the money. some have had great experiences with just Renntech springs. i haven't tried the springs, but i do not regret going with coilovers from the start, well worth the money in my opinion.
aesthetically, the orange front side marker on the front bumper sticks out a lot. you have 3 options, you can paint over it yourself, you can put pre-painted (body-color-matched) reflectors, or you can get Euro Impact Strips to replace the whole strip so there's no lines. i first had reflectors, then bought euro impact strips. costs are like $20, $100, and $200, respectively.
also, i'm not sure if you have bixenon headlights, but that is a definite improvement aesthetically and in terms of light output (the whole headlight housing is changed). makes the car look 2 years newer, definitely fresher, and a must have mod if you do not have bixenon headlamps from the factory.
changing the muffler is not really needed. there are few options on the market, and each muffler is $1000 (retail) minimum. just take out your resonator (does not affect emissions at all) at a muffler shop, and for about $50 they will replace your resonator with a pipe. this enhances the sound a bit, makes it a bit more rumbly and pronounced, but is not too loud.
power mods: Overdrive pulleys, ecu, and sl55 intake splitter (and bmc or greenfilter air filters). for about $3500-4000 installed, you will run about 400hp and 400ft.lb of torque. on stock tires, and just these few mods (pulley/ecu/intake) alone, you will run mid-high 12-second quarter miles with trap speeds about 110mph. add headers and ignition, for a total of about $5500-7000 (depends on which tuner parts you use) you will have close to 440hp and torque.
good luck with your car

'03 C32
Congrats underground, you got one with pretty low mileage. I think you will love this car. I purchased my used '03 C32 last July with some trepidation (even with CPO extended warranties, the stories of these being in the shop for weeks waiting for "parts from Germany" are commonplace), but the car has exceeded my every expectation.
Great performance, no mechnical or electrical problems and many compliments from others!

Like KompressorKev said, if you're concerned about handling and/or lowering, a suspension mod is a good thing to do on a C32 - it just isn't one of the things that AMG got right on the C32.

Wow, twelve replies in a row without any sort of sarcastic comment. Must be a record for us
Welcome, Underground (sounds like the final two words of a burial ceremony)
Here's some advice on cheap straight-line performance mods (best bang for the buck) which I would do immediately.
1. Delete resonator (better sound, few more HP, 10 less pounds) for less than $50.00. Absolute no-brainer mod IMO.
2. Replace stock battery with Optima. Saves 33 lbs., costs $100.00, and battery stats are superior to stock. Another no-brainer mod IMO.
3. Replace stock air filters with Green or K&N. Costs less than $100.00, and gives you a few HP.
4. Personally, I would stick your spare in your garage (deletes 50 lbs) and buy some fix-a-flat, but there are obviously good reasons not to do this.
The rest of mods available will set you back some coin. From least to most expensive, they are Denso Iridium plugs ($120) , Magnecor wires ($150.00), SL55 intake (maybe $150.00 if you do it yourself), carbon-fiber hood ($600.00), lighter wheels than 25 lb. stockers (from $600.00 to $6,000.00, depending on your tastes) , ECU reprogram ($1,000.00), aftermarket pullies ($2,000.00), headers (roughly $2,000.00, I think).
Anyways, enjoy the car. I would also suggest that your carefully consider your priorities before heavily modifying the suspension. I really like the comfortable ride of a C32 with stock suspension, although the trade-off is obviously less grip in the twisties.

All of that said, this is the most active board I think for C32ers, but I see almost all the members here on other boards as well.
That's all a long way around to saying, the filters are available from evosport (click the View the Advertiser Index link at the top) and they also make other cool stuff available or just announce it and torture us here on the board (like a CF lip for the C32 )
