just to stay with the M3 topic...
here is another person trying to justify that a 3 pedal M3 completely stock, tires, engine, no weight reduction can be driven to high 12's..
http://www.acurazine.com/forums/show...74#post4724374
i don't post here anymore, since the members are a bit bias on the honda stuff... but overall most have moved on to better cars...obviously.
In regards to LEE RUTTER's 12.7 run on a M3, from the video we can tell the rims are different, there is weight reduction (supposedly) and maybe a pulley and DR's.
I give LEE credit for the run, but to say he was completely stock (i don't buy it)
this 12.7 story of the M3 has been argued back and forth just like Watergate or JFK's traggic day.

LOL that was hillarious, I almost fell out of my chair while reading this post...morse code LOL.. jeezus christ.
Just for refferance..My car is stock and runs 13.3@105.9mph (sea level) using the cripled us launch control.
I havent had the pleasure racing a c55 yet. I think its a drivers race between two. Just my 2 cents.. Both are Great cars!

Don't have a Mercedes right now...
I am just curious, can anybody feel the difference in acceleration between a car that does 13.3 and another that does 12.7secs for 1/4 mile?
Here is my experience with the M3. I test drove a 2004 M3 coupe w/SMG transmission last Sunday. The SMG transmission was great. In the sport mode it changes the gears so fast, it made me feel like I was driving a miniature F-1 car. The engine felt strong but it didn't impress me so much over the 4.3L V8 on my C43. Don't get me wrong, I am pretty sure that it is faster than mine but the low end torque and the engine roar of the C43 makes the car feel more powerful. The C55 might have similar 1/4mile with the M3 but it probably feels more powerful. Just my 2 cents

I changed from a c32 to 911 Carrera and although its down on power (315 vs 343) the 250-300 kg weight diff and drag factor (0.3 vs 0.35) make a noticeable difference. The magazines quote around 12.8 vs 13.3 1/4 mile.
Above 100mph my cars walks away from M3`s

Maybe if it were a carrera S. But a regular 911 carrera?? Keep dreaming.. No I dont think so.. I dog walk those things..Among those 2 cars, I think a moded c32 is capable of more due to the f/i aspect.

911 and SMG M3.. close call..
911 (regular) not Cab, S, TT, Targa is lighter and has almost same torque and slightly less hp.
From a roll.. it would be close...
from a dig... I take the Porsche. Better launch capabilities. As mentioned, the LC on the M3 is not the Euro version.
I have played with a 325hp Carrera, with my new set up and I think for freeway driving it should not be a problem. However, I'm pretty sure after well in the 3 digits, 1 extra gear helps and I won't be able to pull anymore.
Whether they are fast or not.. a P-car is jus plain fun.
I consider the M3 the working man's sports car and the P-car the true sports car and the Corvette (bang for the buck) sports car.

ok, ive DONE this race many many times.
the cars:
05 M3 SMG
Eissman(sp?) race exgh.
K&N cold air intake
02 Porsche 911 Cab. Tip.
Gerret ECU FLASH
Cold Air intake
some loud german high-flow cat back exghaust that i cant remember the name to
custome made throttle body (kicks in at 5K RPMS (sounds like a shot of No2)
ok, i drive the porsche, my best friend drives the M3.
off the line, the M3 beats the porsche, just because of the L/C.
to about 80 they are even, M3 is slightly slightly pulling.
after 90 the porsche's powerband is awsome and starts gaining on the slight (1/5) car length the M3 has gotten. all the way from 90-130 the porsche slowly slowly slowly walks. and weve only raced to 130.
that is a real life race that i do every other weeknd on PCH after CC on the way to breakfast. and the cold air intake helps the M3 a LOT, a whole LOT.
mark

I`ve wasted M3`s on the road and the magazines back up the figures - mine is the 3.6 manual BTW- 177mph top wack.

Couldn`t agree more but the tiptronic feels and is slower than the manual
I`ve beat on the Euro spec M3`s and look forward to racing the new v8`s, Hope to have a 996 TT by then too
