C55 with two owners in less than one yr
and less than 3k miles! sort of a red flag to me.

carfax is not all that great in getting every single info unless it is reported. what other avenues can i take to get more info before test driving and looking at service papers?
(i'm hoping the previous owner(s) are on the board and can give their two cents)

If the car is coming from an M-B dealer and is certified it shouldn't be a problem, also the dealer should give you the vehicle service history etc., if it's coming from a non m-B dealer you may want to look into it deeper.
I know of a couple of members on the SLK forum that have had their cars for a year with only 1,200 miles worth of use...this may not be a bad deal, however make sure you look into it as deeply as possible.

There seems there are a lot of people out there who buy cars and end wanting something different soon after so I wouldn't find anything strange about the first owner/buyer.
The second owner hasn't had the car registered for a month yet. (3/21/06) that seems a bit odd but who knows.
I would thoroughly inspect the car regardless of whether MB is reselling it or not. Accidents don't show up on carfax unless a police reprot is filed
