A new core is being made. I modified my existing one as a prototype for plumbing and flow. Pricing is not yet set as I am not yet done spending my own money

My Intercooler was just replaced

My leaking Intercooler was just replaced and the Garrett part number is,

720706-0002

which is the newer number. Around 40k miles on 2003 C32. Transmission fluid showed no glycol contamination, but I do have the Valeo radiator.

To actually get the core dimensions, one would need to cut the assembly open. There is a welded plate on the bottom and top. I cannot tell for sure, but it appears to be carefully welded in, but it may just be a carefully placed gasket around the core, before the upper/lower plates are welded.

Hey Don,

Thanks for posting these pics. It is really hard to find stuff like this on the net. I guess it's because most people don't dig into them like a small block Chevy. If you have any more I'd like to see what you have. I've been brewing an idea in my head to remove the factory supercharger and install a remote mount turbo and still utilize the factory intercooler. Those 2 tabs that stick up, do those bolt to the supercharger housing?

My main problem is the fact that the supercharger and intake runners are cast as one piece. I'd like to find a donor supercharger assembly and trim them off or possibly have some machined?

-Matt

It might be easier to just use a Mustang aftermarket intercooler (like Vortech) and route the air into the the two air intake plenums on either side of the supercharger. It is only a supercharger mounting plate between the air intake plenums and the heads.

This would allow you to toss the supercharger and old intercooler. You would still need to adapt the throttle body assembly. I don't really like the design of the stock intercooler.

There is a Y transistion between the outlet of the old intercooler and the two air intake plenums on either side of the supercharger (it's under the throttle body assembly). On the E55, this Y adapter is part of the Intercooler, see pictures on EuroElite's webpage.

The E55 assembly looks a lot like the C32 assembly, but with two less cylinders.

Oh and those two ears help support the intercooler, otherwise it would cantilever off the supercharger outlet port. The torque arm this produces would cause breakage or fractures, if those two bosses were not there to offer support on the opposite end.

Thanks for answering all my questions. Here is one more, so the blower isn't permanently attached (by means of casting) to the intake runners then?

I like your idea of using an aftermarket intercooler core such as one from Vortec. One day my plan will come to fruition. Thanks!
