Try the Kelley blue book website to check the value for each car..
I'll suggest private sale,, thats just me..

not to be an ***, but i doubt you'll be able to get an S class for two traded in cars, unless you want to get an 03 S class. Let me know how things worked

My uncle traded 05 Frontier and an 05 C240 and got an 06 Escalade. He got cheaper monthly payments compared from the two vehicles traded.( lower principal also)

Every dealership, financial institution, and your credit score will vary, you might not get an S-class from a particular dealership but other dealership will.

I guess it's all about dealing with the dealership.

actually i was going to put money on top of the trade ins but people were also telling me that its best to just sell the cars to people on craigslist or whatnot and get the cash becauseill get more money? they said the dealerships will try to screw me and give me way less money.

Generally, selling outright privately is better . . . but there could be other factors here.

What state are you in? Do you save on sales tax by only paying tax on the DIFFERENCE after your trades?

In my area (Colorado) used cars are at a premium right now. They're going high at the auctions and on the retail floors. I don't know if the poor economy is forcing people to shop used . . .or maybe gas has something to do with it, I don't know, but it's been nuts around here for at least a year. It seems the older and lower value the car, the harder it is to get a deal on it. For example: Back in January, I ended up buying a 2005 Taurus for my kid for $9999 because I couldn't find a 2001 thru 2003 for a decent price. The closest I got was a 2003 Taurus with 55k miles with bald tires and some dings for $8500. That's why I went with a 1 year old one in perfect shape with 18k miles.

You should at least try to see what you can get for them. Just don't fall for the old trick of them offering you what seems like top dollar or more, only to have you pay sticker for the new car.

Use www.kbb.com and www.nadaguides.com to get a good idea of the "trade-in" or "wholesale" values. You should get that or close to it, especially right now. Those are two late model fuel efficient cars.

Good luck.
