need some insight please

can any of you lads explain the difference between a 1996 c4s/c2s and the c55

are the 993 series reliable or $$$ to keep on the road (not talking about tires)

my local MB dealer said the C55 was like driving a 4 door 911, but I dont think they have any idea what they are talking about

thanks in advance for your time and look forward to the info

I'm trying to ride myself of my boy hood dream of owning a 993 S series

a quarter mile at a time
C55 should be quicker than a C4S of that era.

FYI - C55 has a 5.5L 362hp V8

As much as I love my AMG, I would never consider it a 4 door C4S. Having owned a 911 for 15 years, I know my AMG is quicker and much more solid, but it is still a sport SEDAN. Any 911, new or 30 years old, is a true sports car. The C4S would be a huge load of fun on the back country roads, anywhere. The C55 would be good but not as great by any stretch of the imagination.

If you are looking for a fun daily driver with room for 4, go C55. If you are looking for a SPORTS CAR for occasional runs into the hills, by yourself or one other person, go Porsche.

The Porsche is not all about straight line numbers, it's about the overall experience. And, I'm sorry, but nobody delivers that better than Porsche. Just check out what the automotive writers say.

Before anyone bags on me, remember how I started... I love my AMG. I need 4 doors on a daily, around town driver so the C4S would not be good for me.

You can't really compare the two cars, it's like apples and oranges. I have a C32 my self and I am thinking about a 993 C2S or C4S as well. Personally I think nothing matches a 911, specially the 993s as far as a drivers car. One of the short comings of the smaller AMG cars I think is lack of a manual transmission. I love my C32, it's power, and ease of driving everyday, and would never sale it. And would not be able to do as much if I had a 911 as my only car. But, if I'm looking for a something that satisfies all my senses I would drive a 993 with a sorted suspension setup. I personally don't like the 996 and heard a properly maintained 993 is much more reliable. Also 993 hold thier values better. To sum up if you can afford it have the C55 and older 911 (~87). As far as maintainance the C55 would be much more reliable and cheaper car to maintaine. Partly because it's newer. Hope that answered your question.

only 993 worth getting is the C4S or the Turbo/Turbo S. The 993 should be very reliable other than the fact that boxer engine eats oil. they can't be compared to the C55 however...it's totally different car for different purpose.
