In the market
they're both great cars, but you are comparing apples and oranges here. If you are happy with the M3, but jsut want a few extra doors, go with the C32 but understand it is a paralell move and perhaps even a small step down...if you are looking to "step up" then the answer ist he M5 hands down

mthomas141 - I know what's wrong with your friend's car, it's a little too old. See the earlier one had the small NAV screen and not so great seats. Also, I don't like the wood package on those kind of cars, but I guess that's my preference. Anyway, the more updated M5 looks amazing inside -- see the difference.

2003 M5
I mean, in the end of the day, we'll all have our opinions of which we prefer, but I think we can all agree that you are comparing different class of cars (one's smaller, one's bigger), basically it should be either a W210 E55 or the E90 M5, that's more of a direct competition.
Seems some of you have forgotten your manners! Admit it, when that M5 came out, you knew nothing better!

I guess I’ll have to call you crazy.
As you can (or can’t see) the steering wheel changed, the navigation screen is wider (tape player removed; put under the nav. screen), but what you may not be able to see – the stitching is more refined, the seats are better (I provided a better pic below), and a lot of other ‘little’ things changed. Just like jgsx said it's the same generation car, just with a face-lift, like the C32 and C55.

One added benefit of owning a C32, yet not mentioned, is the luxury of getting to know all of us (potentially) fellow C32 owners and others in our community. I mean, yes, you could just come here… but you’d be like a horse in gym class; real fast but with nothing to say.

Comparing a C class to a M5 is like comparing a highschool track member to an olympic gold medalist.
Absolutely no comparison.
Drive the two and you will know what I am talking about. A better comparison would be M5 vs. S55 AMG
The comments regarding the dated look of the M5 are a matter of personal preference. It is a classic look. The way a sports sedan should look like. Granted the interior of the mercedes are nicer. The performance of bmw is superior.
I would rather have a M5 then a car that daddy's little princess drives to the club every weekend.
By the way, I drive an old man S430

M5 all the way! More cabin space and more comfy to add. THe only thing would be the automatic transmission being unavailable in the M5 but most people don't complain about that.
Had I been able to find a 2003 M5 in white with <25k miles, well, I would have never found MBworld.

Agree with tee_tz
and, many of you are saying that e39 m5 looks old, but what if you compare it with w210 E55, E39 m5 looks way better than W210 E55.
Also, one thing you need to consider is that, the maintenacne on m5 is gonna be much more expensive the C32.
But I would still take E39 M5 over C32 anytime anyday.

wow ... thanks for all the replies guys.
I have to agree with sdsilverm3, one of the main problems is that I have been trying to find an good 02 ish M5 for a while now. The M5 has been my fav car for ages ... but I guess I have to take into considration this is more going to be for the wife, and she like the newer looking C32
Can someone please give me some feedabck in the auto box in the C32, how do you find it ... is there a full manual mode at all ? and it does not have the paddles shifters right ?

Why thank you.
Well, it depends.
Yeah, you can only look for so long before you have to buy something. Lo and behold two months after I get my car a white 03 M5 pops in the Autotrader with 11k miles!!!! Such bad timing. I hope your quest goes better than mine.

No paddles and not a full manual mode either - although you can select gears by nudging the stick left (down a gear) or right (up a gear). If you hit the rev limiter it will shift up for you - so never fully manual.
The 7-speed autos in the 63 engined cars have full manual mode though - I drove an E63 yesterday - phwoarrrrrr!!
