C55 Oil Usage

Wondering how much oil it's normal for a C55 to use. Mine is just coming up on 30k miles, and will be going in for its 3rd service. Since its second service its used 2 quarts of oil. It used 1 between its 10k and 20k services. Is this normal oil usage? I've had no problems with the car, performance, etc, BTW.

Thanks!
Christopher

Mine has never had the computer tell me to add oil, but I put in about a quart averaged over 10k just to be safe and it's never said it's high.

How the car was broken in plays a factor on how much oil needs to be added between oil changes/services. Sometimes the engine might just need oil or the dealer did not add enough last service.

Per MB, 1qt every 1000miles is normal and acceptable. I'd just keep an eye on it, but if you've only had to add one qt between 10,000 miles, I'd wouldn't worry too much. If you had to add multiple qts between services, then perhaps something might be wrong.

I think your consumption is normal. I was 1 quart low at about 14k miles.

Thanks for your input guys. I figured it was pretty normal, but it's nice to get some feedback.

Nope...MB says 1qt every 1000 miles is within acceptable range. Our ML430 seemed to consume more oil than normal. It burned more oil than my '94 C220 at the time (which didn't burn any!). They did a oil consumption test for 1000 miles and it ate about 1/2 quart of oil. MB says its normal and printed something out stating that. Don't have it anymore, unfortunately.

I believe I did write MBUSA as well on the issue and I got the same answer.

A lot of other car manufacturers also say that 1qt per 1000 miles is acceptable (BMW & Audi are two)

WOW ... that's insane (1qt/1000 miles) ... wonder what the CAT, O2 sensor and plugs will look like after 50K miles

My girlfriend's VW also uses 1qt per 1000 miles, and that's acceptable according to VW. Guess my qt or 2 every 10k isn't so bad....

my 01 330i sucked up about 1 qt per 1000 miles.. I kept asking my SA at the time because it sure seemed excessive, but they said it was acceptable.. The car had 110k miles. I was sick of putting oil in my car every couple of weeks..

haha, yup, your 2qts per 10k miles certainly isn't bad...could be annoying but not bad.

I hear it all depends on how the engine was broken in, that determines how much oil it burns later in its service life. fwiw, my '94 c220 had 160k on it when we sold it, still never ate a drop of oil. But our ML430 ate and still eats oil.
