First mod: Deleted the Resonator

Jgsx, ic. So you run 3" out of the Y pipe. To get a deeper sound I think we should have 3" straight out of the cats. I was afraid to remove the cats actually, my car might not pass emission test.
What did you do with the muffler ? Do you still use OEM muffler and just enlarged the opening to fit 3" ?

I was going to post this exact thread a few days ago. I too was very hesitant about deleting the resonator because of my family. My advice, dont wait any longer. At idle, the car sounds stock. Acceleration justs sounds a little throatier. But to me its the perfect sound, not overly aggressive, but sweet sounding. You can hear the exhaust while cruising on the freeway, but it sounds good. It does not drone at all. As far as performance goes, I think it helped with throttle response. Nothing mind blowing, but suttle. It cost me $60 at a mom and pop exhaust shop here in CA. Only took about 20 minutes. I highly recommend this.

As posted in previous threads by people that know much more about horsepower than I do, the resonator delete should not add any power to the rear wheels. On the other hand, I have been very frustrated with the tranmission "jerk" since I bought my car. All of a sudden, the car feel much smoother accelerating through 2nd and 3rd gears. Maybe it's just a placibo effect, but I like my car more today than I did yesterday morning. Oh, and I did not do the ECU reset after the delete. This is just an exhaust thing.
And... maybe another mind game, but I think the car fees just a bit more responsive in the throttle.

Sorry man, that sucks. I guess that's why we spend $975,000 for a 673 square foot, one bedroom house (in Laguna Beach, though) out here. It's the weather.
By the way, it was 75 today and, yes, I was driving with all my windows down again. Sweet! My gas milage is dropping as I'm WOT more often now, just for the sound of it.

OK, anyone have any insight here? I've been driving around for a few days without the resonator now, and I'm amazed at the strange affect I've experienced. The infamous tranny jerk is really smoothed out! After numerous, earlier visits to the dealership, a new torque converter, TCU upgrage, electrical harness (corrupted with tranny fluid) and tranny valving, the jerk was unchanged. Now, with a piece of straight tubing in lieu of the resonator, shifts are smooter. It is not a figment of my imagination or wishful thinking. Sure, there is still a little bit of a jerk at times, but it is really nice to drive at lower speeds now.
Is it really possible for a slight backpressure change in the exhaust to effect the shifts in the transmission?

Ah, I see. I actually have that setup on my car at the moment, except that I also eliminated the rear cats and replaced that with 3" pipe as well. The tone actually improved with time. Intially, there was a lot of high pitch rasphy tone under certain conditions. Most of that went away, probably from soot building up in the new clean piping. The car actually sounds very good now. I got to hear it VERY well when I had 6 dudes trying to push my car out of the snow while my rear tires were spinning.
EDIT: The rear cars were actually replaced with smaller piping (I think 2.5" on each), and then the Y pipe fed into 3"

The topend performance on your car should especially be night and day! Here's a pic of PTE's setup that wrks great: His exhaust setup that I'll be copying. I ordered the Y pipe and reso from Summitracing.com. Total about 89.00 all together incl shipping.

My custom exhaust is almost done as well.
I'm using the same flowmaster y-pipe mentioned above, combined with Random Tech. racing metallic cats, and custom SS piping. These items combined with the Evo headers, Renntech ECU tuning, and Eisenmann racing exhaust should be nice.

I'm nt feeling the evosport headers. Kleeman or having some custom made to eliminate the primaries is the move. This is also where alot of heat from under the hood comes from. Those primary cats create alot of heat in your exaust mani's. PTE picked up a 2mph inc in the 1/4 mile 106 to 108 mph. Time dropped to 12.9@108mph.. The midrange and topend power were very noticeable.
