C32 AMG
Intake/Filter

has anyone installed any aftermarket intake kits or air filters on their cars? If so any noticeable changes?

We lost 10HP at the wheels experimenting with an ITG filter, so at this time I do not recommend changing the filter. We are developing an intake kit that is currently yeilding promising results. The intake as well as the rest of our C32 upgrades should be available by December.

Thanks

Ben

ITG

Ben,
is the prob with ITG that it stuffs the top of the box so full that air is actually restricted?

From the pics I saw it looked that way to me (filter was effectively too thick for the box).

Or something else wrong?

Have you dynoed a C32 without any filter as a baseline to show what would be possible HP gain if you had a "perfect" filter?

Yes, the ITG filter was designed too thick.

Vadim has done numerous dynos with various filters and intake arrangements. He has found an intake design that he is happy with, and will likely post some prototype results in the near future.

Neither I nor Vadim will put K&N filters in our Mercedes. K&N filters do not filter enough debris. In fact, ITG filters filter twice as well as the K&N's.

Agree Ben, no K&N

I'd like to see the part just for testing
to see if any added HP,... to kill the rumor mostly.
In C32 I don't think any extra power there.
The 2 stock filters panels we have are "huge",
unfolded would be about:
(120folds) 1inx4in = 480 square inches each,
lets say 1,000sq inches total!
That is a lot of paper to breath through.

The stock one is just typical air filter paper,
but in size it represents almost a 3ft by 3ft panel!

i read something on C32life.com this morning about a guy using a K&N filter and actually reporting better results from his car. If it actually works i dont know.

Yo AMGDood

The thread I saw never listed a part number and Chevy was probably only hypothesizing.

Bengy, at this point i would like to point out that RENNtech sells their intakes with K&N's as a combo and state that both intake and K&N will give an extra 10 horses. Filtering rate is an interesting subject but I would think that RENNtech would be fully aware of the possible low filtering rate and harmfull effect on the engine if that were the case. So the way I see it -it's Bengy and Vadim against RENNtech and personally would go with RENNtechs offer as far as I know they do stand behind their products.

Unless Renntech has suddenly changed their preferred choice of air filters, they are using ITG.

Bangy, looks like RENNtech updated their webpage-I was however considering the intake from them untill I learned about the additional sucking noise, so before update info on the RENNtechs web page stated that carbon fiber intake comes with dual K&N for my car(8 cil. 5.0) If what you are saying is true looks to me like they went from K&N to ITG as there were no ITG filter for w140 s500 before ----if its available now that would be a new product from ITG at least for w140. All of it not important to me I just know what I read on their webpage when I was concidering.

YOu could tell me however what would be better for the car -----changing stock front shocks to HD bilsteins or just buying a thicker sway bar from Renntech for $680------seems high for just sway bar probably H&R.
