255 Tires rubbing?

Guys, I put on some 255 size tires in the rear, on the stock 17" AMG wheels on my C32. Anyway, when I was driving over railroad tracks, the rear right tire made a rubbing sound on what sounded like the fenderwell. Is this odd? I went back the next day and put back on 245 sized tires, same brand, and it didn't rub anymore on big road humps. Any idea why this might have occured?

One thing you may want to make sure of is that: when you increase width of tire at the same time decrease hight of sidewall. There is very liitle space between tire and fender in the rear. It sort of happened to me, when bought new tires. Instead of 245/40/17 i got 245/45/17 little difference but significant enough for tire to rub fender on big bumps.

I have had 255/40s in the rear for a long time and have had no problems. What height do you have?

there are some tabs on the inner fender that should be trimmed back some. take the rims off and look and you should see them. i had to do that to make my 265 /30-19 fit.

hey,
i'm running 255/35 R18 in the back there is no rub at all over any bumps or anything. at first i had a little rub it turned out to be that my fender liner was a little out of shape so that is what was rubbing in the car. but like someone else said if u have 255/45 or ever 40's in the back there is a chance u might rub that a little different but its enough to make the wheels rub.
and i'm going to be upgrading to 265/35 R18 in the back soon, and i have been told that i would not have any rub with those either so u should be having no problems with 255
