Revs rising in "park"

Recently after driving in relatively heavy traffic on hot days i find that when i pull up to my drive and put it in park to open the gate, the revs climb to about 2,000rpm for about 3-4 secs before settling back to idle.

Any idea why this happens? Can i ignore it or does it need further investigation?

Sorry, stupid-noob question.
