Supercharger Problem

Hi All,

I am once again having problems with my supercharger. When i start the car, the supercharger sounds like its grinding against something. When i take off the engine cover, correct me if i'm wrong, i see something on the supercharger spinning. I don't think its supposed to be spinning. When i stop the car it looks like its loose.

Sorry for the broad explanation. I'm not sure how else to explain it.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You have a bad tensioner pulley.

SC will spin even if it is not engaged.

Find a qualified shop to look at your car.

DO NOT jump to conclusions just because of sounds.

my car had the same problem/noise, took the car to the dearlership and they replaced the supercharger clutch, kompressor pulley and belt tensioner.
it's about 2000 canadian dollars in parts if you don't have extended warrenty.

Thanks for your replies.

Damn, i don't have extended warranty. But doesn't Powertrain usually have an extra year of warranty? Well thats what i was told by Mercedes when i purchased the car.

I agree with Vadim. Don't jump to any conclusions. The noise could be as simple as the belt tensioner, or even an idler pulley.
If indeed the noise is coming from the supercharger it could be the pulley, or the $18 supercharger bearing, or the clutch. I would have a qualified individual do a thorough listening to the car, which could even include removing the belt and spinning each pulley to try to localize the problem. The belt is not hard to remove...you need a long handled wrench, a torx socket, and a 5mm mandrel to brace the tensioner pulley in the cocked position. I think audio or video could be helpful for us here as many on this forum have had grinding supercharger noise (I'm unfortunately not one of them).

Regards,
Pete
