Well after a lot of poor communication and mistakes, my cams arrived (at the WRONG address). I was planning on playing with them last weekend, so I don't know if I'll have time to this week. I'll share info as soon as I have it.

Most vendors keep trying to sell the WRONG cams. Even evosport ordered a batch of the cams for normally aspirated M112 engines instead of the ones for the kompressor M112. Here is all the information so that other's don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Part numbers 035101681-L0 and 035101681-R0.
268deg/272deg/114deg/7.25mm/7.45mm/0.95/1.15mm

Retail is 1380 euros/pair
Vendor cost is for 759 euros/pair, so don't let them try to charge you a fortune. I think that $1500USD/pair is a very fair price.

as i told Jerry yesterday I think upgraded (better/larger) valves may be the way to go. Speaking to REV yesterday I was informed that they have a sister co that does head work. the price for "upgraded" valves are $26 each. That $500!

The key is- i think- finding the right shop to do the port and polish.

Based on what REV told me- at this point i'm comfortable with them.

the way i see this working for me-
1. take car to mercedes. make sure i workout storage time as car will be there for a while. have them pull heads and remove evosport headers.

2. send heads, headers and shrick cams to REV. REV dismantles head and gets an exhaust and intake valve as templates. REV will provide advice/recommendation regarding valves after checking cam specs, boost pressure curve. New springs may or may not be required.

3. REV then ports, polishes (match port headers as well). They install upgraded valves when head is rebuilt. Would love if 2mm bigger exhaust and 1mm bigger intake valves could be implemented. If any additional parts are needed then that will be coordinated with the nearest mercedes parts dept.

4. complete heads and headers are returned for reinstallation.

5. after cam break in procedure-car is driven without exceeding 4000 rpm - straight to dyno. dyno runs done with careful observations of A/F ratios in upper rpm. need to make sure there is no leaning out. depending what you see- may need a custom tune of chip.

i'm hoping the valves, P&P, cams add an addtional 40-50 hp. that's a lot hence my concern with making sure the stock system can flow enough fuel.

The whole process above is prob $5000. If you just install the cams then it's 15-20hp for $2000 (assuming 500 to install).

do you think my estimate of 40-50 hp is too optimistic????

Good question. I wish I knew the answer!

Does REV provide flow bench testing? I think this is key to getting the right port job. Upgrading the top end components and spending the extra $$$ there is something I now wish I would have considered.

After my talks with Schrick, I was assured that I didn't need to change valves, springs, lifters, rockers, rods, valve seats, valve guides, retainers, etc. But, I had this conversation when we thought the N/A cams were the right ones.

So for me, it now comes down to how good the AMG components are.

i don't think you need worry about the stock valvetrain floating.

the german tuner mkb offers a complete package including cams and a 6400 rpm limit - without needing new springs or a lightened valvetrain.

an engine makes power in it's head. it's all about flowing air.

Jerry does Precision engineering have a flow bench?l

I learned from previous vehicles that head work is not as simple as getting high flow numbers. Flow bench numbers are nice, but high flow bench numbers do not equate high performance. It really comes down to specific application experience. I had two high flow heads that gave me nice power gains, but I eventually switched to a one with a relatively low bench flow number and gained power across the board.

Good to know.....I don't think PE did a flow bench test because of the time restrictions. They are going by experience with my port job.

agreed...but it also makes a difference on the application...

we have twin-screw F/I motors...i agree you don't want to go crazy, but with the amount of air that is available so low in the rpm range, i would think that some medium flow bench numbers would be acceptable for our cars...meaning that you don't want to hog them out, but you don't want to be too conservative either, especially in light of the cam specs...

It's good that you went with a reputable head company. See what I mean though, a porter could just hog out the head and get high flow numbers. That's not what you want.

That's also why I'm sitting back and watching before I port.

Yup, if all I need to do is port to get over 400whp on a reliable daily driver, I'm going to hang on to this car for a while.

Hi guys,

Not trying to derail the thread, as I'm very interested in how the cams + porting&polishing turn out! - but here's pics of my Evosport headers before they went in. These pics are only 5 months old, so they are probably indicative of what Evosport's product still looks like. Jerry can confirm if his look like this.

Thanks! Saves me from having to find my pics.

Mine did look just like that, except my welds on the inside were much more rough and offset.

Randy @ PE seems to know exactly what needs to be done. I hope that he gets more business out of this too.

Frankly, I only understood about 15% of what he was saying.

The heads will be finished tomorrow!!!

That gives MB Thursday, Friday and part of Saturday to get the car ready. I think they close at 3 on Saturday.

i had to pay speedtechnick $180 to grind out imperfections on mine. i have mentioned this before and will say again- carefully inspect these headers before putting them on.

Sorry bro! The heads will be done tomorrow. They started on them today and took the pictures before hand.

They will take some after photos too.
