Aftermarket suspension and warranty

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about putting new suspension on my car and the only thing that's really holding me back is the whole possibility of voiding my warranty. I have a 3rd party warranty, not mb certified. Just wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences with this. Thanks!

I'm wondering the same. However, I think suspension mods would void the warranty. I've been hesitant to perform any mods that MB could use against me as an excuse to not cover warranty service. So far, I've only upgraded my wheels (to 18" AMG wheels) and replaced the grill, added a spoiler, etc. Mostly superficial stuff.

It will really depend on the warranty company. Some don't seem to care much, others will throw flags all over the field as soon as they hear the word "modify", and will look for any excuse they can to get out of a claim.

I have aftermarket springs. One time I complained about some suspension noise during my service B, and the dealer checked it out and never even mentioned the springs.

For definitive clarification, these are questions that should be posed to the warranty company directly.

Aside from that, you'll find that warranty claims are denied for two main reasons. The warranty company usually must have information that the damage to the vehicle is directly related to aftermarket modification. If they have significant information that the damage is related to the modification, expect the claim to be denied. Developing a good relationship with an SA or mechanic can help with this as they are in communication with the non-MB warranty company. The other reason claims are denied is the warranty company uncovers subterfuge presented to the compnay by the vehicle owner.
