Who Wants to Race???
Most of us will never be professional racecar drivers. Consistently making money in this sport is simply too tough. Furthermore, few sanctioning bodies will mix car models or allow street cars. However, I really would love to see daily driven Evo, C32, M3, STi, S4, 911, etc., piloted by amateurs battle it out for a $100K grand prize.
So I was thinking about the early days of ultimate fighting and poker tournaments. It would not be too difficult to organize a tournament where participants would buy in for lets say $1K and allowed to drive any street legal car. Driver’s background would need to be check to avoid pro drivers and each driver must demonstrate ability to solo. The rules could be simple too. Each driver gets 3 sets of 10 laps each. The guy with any 5 fastest laps wins it all. Or there could be a “final table” where 10 wining cars do 10 more laps and all get some money. With only 10 cars on the track at any given time there should not be any need for passing. Thus, with no passing this event should be almost as safe as a regular track event.
