How does the alarm system operate???

Is there, or isn't there an alarm system on stock C32???
OK, I thought my C32 (Canadian model) was protected well, now I am worried. I do not have the Tow Away alarm option btw.
After locking the car with the remote see a LED flashing under the the audio system display (no navigation) which probably means that immobilizer os on (?). After a minute, I open the door with the mechanical key and no alarm sounds, which gives ?????
Same happens if I try this: leave the window open, lock the car and then reach through the wondow to unlock the door and then open it - no audible alarm either. Any idea?

I have the factory alarm and it definitely goes off after arming it with the key fob and trying to open the door or trunk with the mechanical key.
Maybe you have a burned out fuse or something?

When I locked my C32 with the remote and then opened the door by reaching through the window, there was no audible alarm, just blinking headlights. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the alarm horn and some electronic control unit. Now I have a very loud siren when the alarm is activated.
