It's not actually according to my sources, but maybe they want you to think that. What do you think about BMW getting rid of the stick-shifted 6-speed manual? Soon none of their cars will have it, only SMG. SMG is great for the track and everything, but.....

The new BMW V10 actually does not share one similarity to BMW's F1 engine aside from them both being V10's.

I didn't say they had similarities, I just said they used F1 technology to design it, like a V10 that redlines at 8,000. And I never said it would "out-perform" a Viper, I jusrt said it had a better power-to-weight ratio, weighing in at 2700lbs w/ 550hp. The Viper has more torque though. I think the M5 has like 468. And the Viper has 500.

Do you follow F1 racing at all? Your info is a little skewed. The M5 engine will not redline at 8k, but 7k. BTW, the BMW F1 V-10 is just under 3000cc and revs past 18k. Accord, what was the latest figure? 19-20k?

BMW does not derive their engines from Formula One, on the contrary, BMW does want you to believe that they do. I just find it funny how their M engines have the same reliability as their Formula One engines. That is the only similarity, however.

the current M5 is over 4000 pounds..... even if the new M5 lost 300 pounds, and had 550HP, it's power to weight will still not match the Viper.... and the M5 will more likely weight close to 4000 pounds and have 500HP....

Schrempps C 32 AMG
Hi all,
let me introduce myself:
my name is Ian Pooley, I am from greece and live in germany. I bought Jürgen Schrempps (DaimlerChrysler) used C 32 AMG with 30.000kms on it. Ok, enough bout that.
Here in germany you are allowed to drive on the "autobahn" (Highway or speedway?) as fast as you want. There are no generall speed limits. When you race against a M3 on the autobahn you woll win the race on high speed. But if you race against it on a track with much curves (<---is that right?) you may loose. But mostly every car with a manual transmission will loose against a car with same HP and automatic transmission on high speed.
Sorry for my bad english

It's okay buddy, you're car is still the ****. It's sounds to me you're fairly insecure about what YOUR car can do. Anyway, I heard the new M3 is gonna come with a V8. Dude, have you guys heard of the new M5 though!!! freakin 100hp per liter in a 5.5 V10!!! I heard it should match the performance of a freakin' viper and it has a better power to weight ratio than the viper. That's crazy, maybe I should've waited for that instead of my SL55....................nah!!!! but that car is gonna be badass though.

Sorry guy but I work in munich and one of my best friends works there @ BMW. The new M3 won´t have a V8 engine. The M3 will allways have a R6 engine. No super or turbochargers in BMW technology. Maybe the new one will have bout 12.000 rpm? Too bad that the engine will be ****ed up in one year
![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Next thing: the M5 can have as much HP as it wants. You guys should know that the only thing that is important on acceleration ist torque! Mercedes Benz built new Maybach V8 engines with ~ 600 HP and nearly 1000NM @ 3500rpm. NM stands for Newton Meter (german) - I think you use somethin like lb-ft? Now imagine this engine by AMG in the next E-Class.
By the way, Mercedes- AMG said that they don´t wanna reach 500 HP in the W211 E-Class. It´s not needed right now. When BMW increases the power over 500 HP Mercedes-AMG will answer.
The biggest engine for Maybach cars is a turbocharched V24 (2*V12) with 1200 HP and more than 2000NM torque(they don´t know how high it will finaly be). The problem is the transmission...
PS: Any1´s home near boston?

Good kill, however I have gone up against AMGs up here in the Rocky Mountains and I would have to say that it is more of an even race up here than it is at sea level.
